SONY A7RII with Techart LM-EA7 adapter lens test

Just received the Techart LM-EA7 auto focus adapter few days earlier, got some time today to do some test with Leica M lenses, and other mount lenses with adapter to M mount.

I have tested the following lenses in M mount:

Contax G Biogon 21/2.8 in M mount using Hawk's factory helicoid.

Minolta M-Rokkor 28/2.8 lens

Leica Summilux 35/1.4 v2
Leica Summicron 35/2 v4
Leica Summicron 35/2 v1
Konica Hexar 35/2 in M mount
Voigtlander Nokton 35/1.4
Leica Summaron 35/2.8
Nikon 35/1.8 with adapter to M

Leica Summilux 50/1.4 v1
Leica Summicron 50/2 Rigid
Leica Summarit-M 50/1.5
Leica Elmar-M 50/2.8
Zeiss Sonnar 50/1.5 LTM
Zeiss Opton Sonnar 50/1.5 in M mount using Hawk's helicoid
Canon 50/1.5 LTM

Leica Hector 73/1.9 LTM

Leica Summilux 75/1.4

Leica Summicron 90/2 v4
Leica APO-Summicron 90/2 ASPH

Other lenses include M42 mount Tomioka Yashinon 55/1.2, M42 mount Kinoptik Apochromat 100/2, FD mount Canon 50/1.2L.

All the lenses mentioned above are working perfectly with the LM-EA7 adapter, very fast focusing just a bit noisy, even the heaviest Kinoptik 100/2 still working fine, as long as you hold the lens with another hand.

Any camera freeze-ups? How much slower is the adapter than a sony E-mount lens?

I'm still waiting for more reviews, but this is beginning to look great. Can't wait for the day when I can shoot a 75mm APO cron on AF...

I haven't got any freeze on the camera yet, I would say no slower than the original FE mount lenses.

It's not nearly as fast as a native lens but it's quite accurate. Works best with focal lengths less than 100mm or so; longer lenses may need a little manual focus to get things closer.

New firmware should be coming soon to fix a few bugs. I have had a few weird issues which are corrected with a power cycle.

Been using mine a couple of months.

Dear all, I actually received my Techart adaptor in April and I did update the software of the adaptor once it was available, focusing not a problem, but I found with the adaptor, my Sony A7 R2 consistently overexposed (by 2 to 3 stops or sometimes even more) with any Leica lens or Leica mount lens I have under bright sunlight conditions

I love its idea but I really can't cope with the overexposure under bright sunlight

Odd. I've used mine extensively and have not had exposure problems. Did you turn off lens corrections?

Received mine today. My experience largely mirrors yours. Focus is reasonably fast and downright fast in good light.

I can also confirm that using floating element lenses won't be an issue in most situations. All of my M lenses are FLE and image degradation from directly using the adapter to focusing with magnify is negligible for working focus distances. For example, the 50APO degrades visibly at 0.7m if set to infinity on the adapter. At 1-1.5m there is a tiny bit of resolution loss and at 1.5m+ I can't notice any difference.

As yet another bonus, the motor is powerful enough to drive the Noctilux on its own. Battery life does suffer visibly (down to 40% after 50-60 frames). But I suppose that's not surprising.

I did get overexposing at first but it went away after turning lens comp off. I think this adapter fools the camera to think that there is a Sony lens attached which in factory settings has rather robust shading correction.

"Lens comp", is it the menu thing with 3 options?
Shade, c aberration, distortion comp

I actually tried turn them off one by one, unfortunately it doesn't help

Is it my early version of Techart adaptor fault? If so, I don't mind buying another new as I love the idea, but I first want to be sure I can use it with my lux lens wide open (as the exposure problem improves a bit with f5.6 or above, but ridiculous to do so)

What version firmware?

Note that version 2 will actually show as rev 1 and vice versa

I think it is the latest version, the default original version gave a very strange "halo" image which was corrected by this new version

Now testing the latest firmware. Motor seems a bit quieter than with original firmware. Hopefully they have fixed the random bugs that required rebooting the camera

I just updated to V3, the random bugs still happened once while I was playing with it at home😱
