I know a lot of people cannot afford a Leica, but to wish this company to fail, is completely ignoring Leica's place in photo history. Yes, they run counter to market trends, march to their own drummer, and many people feel that they only pander to the rich. So many classic companies have fallen, and are falling by the wayside because of market trends and very myopic CEOs - Kodak, Polaroid, Agfa, etc.... even to an extent Fuji, by discontinuing film stocks. Leica is probably just above water and needs as much support as it can get. Monetarily, morally... think of photography without this company.

But few posts above you just wanted better prices. The moment that starts to happen, Leica competing with price against Sony and alikes, its byebye for small German camera maker.

Charging this amount for a full frame compact seems to be the thing to do and Sony will be laughing all the way to the bank ... for a while. Then Fuji will bring out something similar and no one will want the Sony and before you know it full frame compacts will be old hat and we'll start searching for the next holy grail.

Which will probably be a good old rangefinder type camera...with a great viewfinder.

It does take some getting used to. It's a work in progress. Once you're used to it, the strangeness abates.

The ui never got better for me.. I have a 5n that I only keep around because it is a good universal digital back (shortest flange to sensor distance that I know of). The Sigma 30f2.8 helped a lot in terms of using the camera w/ a decent af lens that did not cost an arm and a leg. But there is one ting I still hate about the 5n that I think they fixed on the 6, the red video button. I can't tell u how many times I have accidentally turned on video mode:bang: I finally got feed up,and did the hillbilly fix on it 😀

Anyway, these days the 5n does not get much action...unless I feel like using a legacy lens that the Nex is the only csc that it will work on.

It is incredible how fast Sony just keeps on putting out new camera body models every year in the Nex line alone.

Small German camera maker makes a lot more than just cameras...your scenario will not happen I bet.

The camera I've been waiting for over two years...my main concern would be the high ISO performance of a 30+mp sensor and whether IBIS will work on adapted glass. The NEX7 has been amazing for me...30,000 actuations the first year I got it 😀

The crowd is getting crazy over this news... After five months they will get crazy after something else... I bought my M3 in 1968 still have it, bought M4-P in 1980 and a TA rapidwinder to it when it became available. I bought the M8 in 2009 as I liked to have images to internet quickly. I still have and use all of them... I will most propably buy the M 240 when it is available more readily (when the new factory is ready) I have A Kaufmann as my FB pal, and I believe he and leica will be around a long time after the new Sony is history...

Hmm, I don't believe it. A FF Nex that uses existing mount (and existing lenses in crop mode)? That means that flange distance remains the same in FF Nex.

Sony will need to do something pretty incredible to make a FF sensor that will be any good in the corners with wide lenses. And if they actually pull it off, the price of FF Nex will be pretty high. FF Nex might actually prove to be beneficial for Leica - it will just show that a good FF MILC is actually expensive to make. Leica-tax or not...

I said much more than that. "More realistic" is much more than than just simply "better." For example, this also ties into their production; they could generate cash faster, simply by building them faster. This speaks of lenses, as well. Even their 'budget' lines are, well, not budget. Leica makes nothing when people buy Zeiss or Voigtlander...

Is it better to generate cash, or backorders? 🙂 Production needs a kick in the pants.

Actually, I hope Sony does put a dent into Leica profits. I'd like to see Leica get more realistic with pricing, and more up-to-date with features, and most importantly, get their slow-as-molasses manufacturing modernized. Competition is a good thing. Maybe this will spur them.

Trusted sources told me (with my huge surprise) that Sony and Zeiss worked much closer than expected on the soon to come new NEX-FF system. I now have been told that along the Zeiss 35mm f/2.8 FF E-mount lens there will be two more Zeiss lenses! A source also told me there would be a Sony branded G zoom lens too. This makes a total of four lenses that will be unveiled along the NEX-FF camera (in September?). I am now trying to convince sources to share the detailed Lens specs.

3000,-$ compared to 6000,-$ of the M240 and more flexibility - who will buy a Leica body anymore!

hehe... Does it have a see thru finder, does it take leica optics ?
does it have leica M ergonomics... If Yes, then we can start consider
"good night leica". Besides it will be history even before the leica needs the first overhaul...
besides... When leica has about one years waiting list for their products when canon, Nikon etc are telling about cutbacks in the production,
do you seriously think Leica is in great trouble....The demand for their production is maybe three-four times bigger than they calculated.

The only way someone can cut into Leica's M monopoly is to make another mechanical rangefinder digital camera at a cheaper price. True M fans don't want a Sony AF camera.

no rangefinder. looks and prestige don't impact on actual use for me, so it's something i'm not bothered with. i hope it feels good to shoot with!

if I can buy a full frame camera with great high iso (think of the rx1 high iso quality) in which i can use my m lenses for less than 3k... i probably will. i love rangefinders but i dont have a problem at all with using an evf, i loved using my x100, and rarely used the optical viewfinder. i'm hoping this sony fullframe interchangeable lens camera has a good evf, good high iso capabilities and is pleasant to use

This sounds like a perfectly fantastic little camera.......even for $3000.00. It will be interesting to see what the camera really is and what it can do.

I think for myself I'm gonna wait a few months until the next one comes out. It will be better, smaller, have better battery life and be 1/3 the price.

.........or maybe I'll just stick with my ratty old M2 and not worry about it.

i'm unable to get excited about EVF only cameras. even the best EVF is not as good as the bad OVF of a entry DSLR.

i'm more interested in fuji xpro-1 successor if there is one.
