It would seem that for the majority of the RF crowd the main issue is gonna be how the device performs 'in da corners' of the frame with a legacy lens mounted. Are the micro lenses tuned for this application?
Not a chance. Consider the difficulties with existing APS-C mirrorless sensors. It will be a lot worse on a FF sensor.
Sony wants to sell you new lenses.

The ui never got better for me.. I have a 5n that I only keep around because it is a good universal digital back (shortest flange to sensor distance that I know of). The Sigma 30f2.8 helped a lot in terms of using the camera w/ a decent af lens that did not cost an arm and a leg. But there is one ting I still hate about the 5n that I think they fixed on the 6, the red video button. I can't tell u how many times I have accidentally turned on video mode:bang: I finally got feed up,and did the hillbilly fix on it
Anyway, these days the 5n does not get much action...unless I feel like using a legacy lens that the Nex is the only csc that it will work on.
It is incredible how fast Sony just keeps on putting out new camera body models every year in the Nex line alone.

It all depends on what you are trying to achieve.
I have my NEX7 ISO on Auto, Color balance and all that other stuff on Auto, camera in Aperture Priority mode and just change the aperture with the top dial or on lens, and adjust with Exposure compensation –another dial. What else is there? What else is needed, if your goal is image, not tinkering around?
I am glad that FF NEX is coming out, maybe the price of 35/1.8 will come down and I will get myself one of them for NEX7.
All the other FF bull does not bother me. Image is king, not bokeh.
i'm unable to get excited about EVF only cameras. even the best EVF is not as good as the bad OVF of a entry DSLR.
i'm more interested in fuji xpro-1 successor if there is one.
Have you actually tried NEX-7 ?
I dont see any differences in performance from my Leica M6 when it comes to VF.

The only way someone can cut into Leica's M monopoly is to make another mechanical rangefinder digital camera at a cheaper price. True M fans don't want a Sony AF camera.
Even Leica has it hard to stick with a "true M " leica. Dr. kaufmann noted that FUJI is successiful because they listened what rangefinder crowd wants:
A copy of leica with a true rangefinder finder... The problem with other manufacturers is that they are battling with diminishing sales. Leica is battling with production that doesn`t meet the demand...

Besides it will be history even before the leica needs the first overhaul...
And that is EXACTLY why I sold my M digital after two shop stops and bought a Sony.

I shoot w/ a lot of different cameras. I will admit that the nex7 controls are better then the nex5n. But every time u need to do something that is not available via those controls, then u need to dive into their weird menu system. That is what drive me crazy. Even as bad as the Olympus omd menu system is, there is some logic to it.. Every time I need to go beyond what I can setup via the external controls, I am faced w/ remembering where something maybe.
As I said the most annoying thing on these cameras that they seemed to have fixed starting w/ the nex6 is the stupid movie button (moved position and there is now a slight dimple protecting the button from accidental hit). There has been a request for as long as I can remember from a lot Sony owner via emails to customer support about disabling that little red button as I remember it...
I used my nex5n for a good 6-7 months of straight shooting before I gave up on it as my camera of choice. When the Fuji x100 and xp1 camera out, I switch immediately to those cameras because Fuji listened - they brought back what I would call back to basic..
If u look at the rx100 or rx1 UI design from controls to menus, they follow closer to their dslr camera line and if the Nex family ever adopts a setup closer to that, I might one day buy another Nex.
I am actually rooting for Sony to succeed.. I want to c more competition.. Their rx100 and rx1 lines are proof they can do better then what I c in the Nex line.

Last software update gives an ability to disable the movie button, so this problem is resolved.
There are 3 custom programmable buttons that you can assign few most usefull functions to.
I would be hard pressed to think of any controls that need me to go to menu. Although I dont find going to menus very difficult either...

It really pays off to get to know your camera to last detail.
A few years ago I read how one pro photographer was teaching himself to focus the lens by feel, without looking thru finder every time. Of course it is difficult if not impossible to do if you have 10 lenses on your hands, you need to get used to a feel of one lens and one camera...

Exactly. Make your setup as simple as you need it. And the tri-nav solution is amazing, with everything right at your thumb. I'm looking forward to seeing how they improve on that.

Who will buy Leica? The same crowd that likes their Mercedes Benz, wears Hugo Boss suits and XL Rolex;-)
I love my Mercedes-Benz. Have you ever driven cross-country? Ever done so in a Mercedes-Benz? The driver's seat alone justifies the higher price, and by the way, the price is about the same as their competition. Loaded Honda Accord and loaded C class are within $2000 or $3000 of each other.
Leica is slightly more than double the price of comparable Sony, but you are getting the rangefinder and a largely hand-made product. Worth it for some, not for others.
For what its worth, I just sold my NEX7 and collection of E-Mount lenses to buy a Leica M Monochrom and M8.2. Hugo Boss suits are pretty nice too, and Rolex makes an extremely good watch, nothing fancy, but high quality.

The "handmade" stuff is nonsense. I have an M9 because I like it, but compared to the way the M3 was built, the M9 is a rattling tin can. I'd much rather have a totally reliable mass-produced camera.
Don't romanticize these elite brands.
As a matter of fact, I have a funny story. I bought a pair of BEH code WWII Dienstglas binoculars at a flea market. (BEH means they were made by Leica). I met this guy there who idolizes Leicas, but could never afford one, and he was drooling over my M9 all the time.
I showed him the binoculars I bought. (they were cloudy, hard to focus, and needed collimating). He had no reaction. "BEH means they were built by Leitz" I said.
His hands started trembling. He grabbed the binoculars and looked through them. "WOW. So clear! So sharp! So bright!" he gushed. (in fact, you could barely see through them). "I can tell this is Leica glass immediately!!" he said.
"Uh huh." I replied. The power of suggestion is very strong.

I had all the custom function buttons set but since I don't use the camera very much anymore, I can't remember what things I ended up going back to the menu system for.
Glad they finally fixed the movie button...

I don't buy prisms, rangefinder gear or buttons.
I don't buy cameras.
I buy a tool that lets me take the pictures I want as easily, quickly, cheaply and compactly with the highest quality possible.
That is the difference between gear guys and photographers. Sure, I like mechanical things. The neighborhood comes to my house when they need to borrow a mechanical do-dad. I have a 3D printer. Nothing wrong with gear loving, just don't confuse it with photographing ability.
The original M cameras rocked the criteria above. The mechanical features were to address the needs. I have to say that I have not liked EVFs, but it has been a few years since I've looked thru one. I also don't like rangefinder patches that get blown out in the sun or don't accurately reflect the framing.
I'm really interested in this new FF NEX. That I have almost enough Sony Points to buy at least a body makes it easier to swallow- Fuji needs a credit card that accrues points
Can't wait to see how this thing works with M glass.
The mount will be the same right as the other NEX cameras, right?

Will it have a good rangefinder?
Of course not. If this is your dream, you better stick to Leica.
Will it look as good as a Leica?
Subjective, but most likely not.
Will it feel as good as a Leica?
Subjective again.
Will it have the same prestige as a Leica?
This only matters to people who are in love with cameras instead of photography. Not a diss, but something to think about.
....
It's not enough to build a good camera with an EVF and a FF sensor ....
Actually, it is enough. If you want a leica BUY A LEICA.

This might have been true for the old mechanical Leicas but no longer. You are now buying overpriced, limited edition circuit boards stuffed in an increasingly oversized Leica shaped box. Only the problematic mechanical rangefinder remains for those who want them.

Um... Anyone who wants a rangefinder camera? You can't be serious about this being a "Leica killer".If all of these rumors are the truth - good night Leica you are history.. . . who will buy a Leica body anymore!

Yes. On a ploughed field I'd back my Series III Land Rover.I love my Mercedes-Benz. Have you ever driven cross-country? . . .
(Or did you mean "from the east coast to the west coast of the United States?" In which case I'd say yes, six or eight times, and what REALLY matters is the experiences on the way. If the comfort of your seat matters that much, why didn't you fly?)

This happens every time a new camera comes out I suppose but can't see why any camera needs to be a Leica Killer. I have the RX-1 and love the evf. I would be very interested in the FF Nex because after having an M9 for 3 years I trust Sony's electronic capabilities/reliability more than I trust Leica's. My M6 though, that is another story.

Interesting story. I took my Zuiko, Leica, and Nikon glass out on the NEX taking what should have been identical pictures with each lens and then printed to 8x10. When I laid the prints out every single person that saw them without hesitation or exception looked at the prints (not knowing what I took them with and not what others had picked) pointed to the Leica ones and said, "that one is better". I had been planning to keep my Zuiko kit and sell my Leica R equipment, after that I am not so sure.

Cheap second hand D700 bodies for sure !Charging this amount for a full frame compact seems to be the thing to do and Sony will be laughing all the way to the bank ... for a while. Then Fuji will bring out something similar and no one will want the Sony and before you know it full frame compacts will be old hat and we'll start searching for the next holy grail.
