I'm sure a few other people are in this boat: Kodak's c41 offerings confuse the heck out of me. Since it's hot out and I don't feel like going outside, I decided to connect a few dots. Correct me if I'm wrong!

Kodak Ultramax 400 (USA) badged film seems only to be sold in retail stores, not online. I've seen some shots here made with this film, and it looks wonderful. I recently bought a roll to try, and upon opening the case, I find the canister has the same appearance as:

Kodak GC 135 Gold Max 400 (USA), minus the fancy packaging.

OK, next:

35mm Color Plus 200 Negative Film, which is "finished in Mexico". I've seen this one in 200 and 800 speeds, and it might exist in others. Looking at the roll inside, it looks identical to:

Kodak 135-36 200 Color Print Film (aka Kodacolor), which oddly costs $1 more per roll at B&H. The only difference I see is that it is marked as "Made in USA". Assuming it all comes off the same line in NY, I assume it's the same film, just packed in Mexico.

I hope this helps a few other confused folks out there. I'm sure in another year it'll all be different. Have any good shots made with these? Let's see them!

PS - we all know Kodak doesn't have the best marketing, let's not turn this into a bash-fest. Thanks.

I shoot the Ultramax 400 (Made in USA - Packaged in Mexico) regularly.

interesting. i've tended to just ignore everything in regards to cheap Kodak films except for the ISO speed.... mostly because i tend to only use those films for experimental purposes and so don't really care about the details anyway. 🙄

i agree that Ultramax/Gold Max 400 is a nice cheap film, though. 🙂
