I have a great affection for lenses of the so-called "standard focal length".
Digging a little deeper in my bags and boxes showed that I own(ed) 72 different standard lenses from 40mm to 55mm (format 24x36mm only!)
In the next week (months) I will post pictures from each lens in my blog under the tag Standard lens.
Some of the pictures are more than 30 years old, some are from the last weeks.
This is by no means a quality comparison, but maybe it can be seen that each lens has its own way of catching the light.

As FSU the only standard lens I know and own a few is 50mm. :) But to be honest it is slightly on tele side for me. And 40 is odd 35, IMO.

72! I'll follow along, too, but more for the photographs. This or that lens doesn't much matter to me, unless its rendering is obviously distinctive.

hi zeno,

i get why you like the konica.
:)

just one question - is the APX 100 the new Agfa Photo stuff, or the old original APX?

for the radionar, i wonder how much of the pictures' characteristics stem from polypan, and what is actually the lens. but, well, isn't that always the question?

anyway, i go into weekend with new inspiration. thank you.

cheers,
sebastian

Thank you both!
Sebastian, the film is the new Agfa APX. In the Radionar pictures it is more the film than the lens. The reduced anti halidation layer lets most lenses look soft and shiny (glowing) when shooting contre jour.

Raid, I have SLR, RF, scale focus, zone focus and AF cameras with fixed and interchangeable lenses.
Quite a mess.
I decided not to post a complete list, to keep the excitement high:)

Thank you, Helen!

What? You have 72 normal lenses and none in 58mm? These were also the norm at one time.

Either way, normal lenses tend to be underrated and overlooked. I admittedly don't use them much in 135, but I do use them with great satisfaction in medium format.

I look forward to seeing your photos.

Murray, talking about 58mm. Years ago, I was offered a Zenit with a Helios-44 for 5,-Euro. I didn´t buy it. I was really broke then, so I had to sell cameras instead of buying them.

pagpow, I didn´t plan this, it happened to me! I will know whether 72 is enough as soon as I get another offer for a new standard lens;-)

#7: Pentaflex Color 50mm/2,8 (SLR)
#8: Olympus E.Zuiko 42mm/2,8 (RF; 35RC)
#9: Biokor-S 45mm/1,9 (RF)
#10: Industar-63 45mm/2,8 (RF)
#11: Rollei Tessar 40mm/3,5 (scale focus)
#12: Pentacon Prakticar 50mm/1,8 (SLR)

Thanks for including one of my favorites the Olympus 35RC. My copy has something going on that I can't figure out but still it is so nice as a carry around camera. I saw the images on your site.

Which Gaius P. are you; the general or the satirist?
