start thinking...new year's resolutions...

Well, I'm going to quit smoking again(I'm going to do this until I get it right!).
How does this relate to photography, you ask?
I'm going to spend the $5 a day I'm not spending on smokes on getting film processed(I have an insane backlog).

1. Locate old negs and chromes.
2. File (or at least properly store) from #1.
3. Start shooting (maybe project based) and stop playing/testing.
4. Purchase proper scanner.
5. Reconstruct and reconstitute darkroom; dependent on buying new home.
6. Stop spending so much time on the web.
7. Be a better, more attentive gardener.

1) PAW (Picture A Week) - currently getting site ready
2) Try not to buy more equipment (OK, maybe a 25mm...)

Lately I have seen work published in magazines that makes me wonder why we all agonize so much over image quality. Sharpness wide open edge to edge corner to corner at minimum focus distance just doesn't matter. If you want to see what I'm talking about, pick up the current copy of B&W Magazine at Barnes & Noble. Heck, FOCUS doesn't even matter.

No more film gear, no matter how good the deal is. Also sell off half of my film gear. Anyone want to buy a Nikon S/S2/SP/F2/F3T?

OK
you can have my crappy little idiotproof Olympus FE-something 5-megapixel wondertoy for any of those cameras.
And don't forget:a camera includes a lens :D just like the one you get has a lenson it. Actually it takes good motion blur abstracts and sharp macro shots in daylight (but everything else kinda sucks).

You can have all my resolutions in trade for one of your M5s and a DR.

I'm thinking big negatives: (4x5, 5x7) and alt process like Kallitype and/or CAW POP.

Still going to keep the RF's loaded but I have been taken by the darkslide.

Aye. The Force is in the huge negatives. The power of the Darkslide is great.

"Luke, beware the Power of the Darkslide!"

Damn. Now I have to add Toyo shooting to my list. Which brings up resolution #0 (has to go before #1) ... shed boocoup pounds.

I have a Brownie Hawkeye Flash model with flash unit that I wouldn't trade for a Nikon rangefinder.
Did you ever see the flash hood for that thing (the Kodak, not the Nikon)? It's enough to put anyone off using the flashbulbs it was designed for!

My resolution is to do whatever is possible to make sure that my new photo book project gets done completely and properly. Things are looking great so far and 2007 should be quite fun. I have new collaborators who are truly dedicated (for a change). This should help.

Now, let me take this opportunity to send you all my best wishes for the Holidays.

Don't worry Joe, I won't put my Xmas card here. ;)

For the curious ones who enjoy deviant, violent and creepy stuff, it's on my website... (Don't go if you don't like that!)

I for one would agree. I think sharpness is a nice-to-have and definitely not an imperative. Focus is a different matter however... Something has to be more-or-less in focus, surely? ;)

New Years resolution for me is definitely to focus more on photography/images and much less on gear.

That said, I still want to get a CV50f2.5 lens, and sell/trade a Contax IIa for a Nikon S2. Then I"m done.

In the New Year I resolve to...

Not based on what I saw in the magazine cited.

Two things for 2007:

1. My equipment gluttony has ceased. Everything I own functions well. I need nothing else. My hardware exceeds my software's abilities at the present time. Probably forever.

2. I am going to attempt to see in an entirely new way in 2007.

This is the way I have seen things since forever.

Resolve Part Deaux

These are the beginnings of the way I hope to see things in the future.

Cheers!

Merry Christmas!

Happy Holidays!
