King Kamehameha the First, early ruler of the Hawaiian Islands. The one at left is on the Strip in Las Vegas, an interpretation of the real statue.

At right is the original commissioned statue located in Kapa'au, Hawaii (Big Island). This one was lost in a shipwreck; a replacement was created and duly settled in Honolulu. Then this original was recovered from the wreck and placed here near the northern point of the island of Hawaii.

Marina del Rey (Los Angeles), Los Angeles County, California 90292

Inscription on the Plaque: For many years, this statue stood in front of and was a trademark for the world renowned Helms Bakery on Venice Boulevard in Los Angeles. On October 6, 1971, it was generously donated to the Marina by the Helms family. In 1975, through the generosity of the Marina's Yacht clubs it was provided with a new helm.

The Helmsman is an approximately 10’ high painted cast concrete figure made in the 1930s.
