Sticker to cover the trademark

Just got asked how many pixels my M7 has. At this rate I'll be wrapping the loon who asked me in gaffer tape. 😉

Wow! I got asked that yesterday! I'm serious. At least the guy knew I was using a Leica. He just thought it was the digitial one.

I use black electrical tape. It works great. You can find it just about anywhere and it's cheap. I use it on my M7 and in my bulk loaders.

🙂

Also, as an alternative, I believe at least DAG still have the black leica dots that can replace the red ones to give a somewhat lower profile.

When the really big health warnings appeared on packs of cigarettes a while back shops started selling replica Marlboro etc packets just 1mm or so larger without a health warning so you could slip your pack inside the cover and not be reminded about the health risk.

Perhaps somebody could make a cardboard slip case for a Leica in bright green with 'Fuji Fun Party One Use' printed all over it?

One reason I've heard for covering the logos on the camera (not only Leica) is that if you're taking photos of people up close (eg. portraits) they will be distracted by the logo and white on black lettering.

Of course, the logical extension of that reasoning is to tape up the lens name, model and serial numbers on the front element surround of the lens!

I get this often too! I just reply with a shrug "It's differnt technology mate, but its equal to about 40 Megapixels."

or we can write on the tape: "It's not digital but I'm still shooting" 😀

One day a man told me that he took a photo of a woman in a street in the far east, but she asked him to delete immediatly the photo and she was very surprised when he showed his film camera... She thought that with so "arcaic camera" he could never take good photos so she left him alone. 🙄

A better use of gaffers tape is to cover the corners, bottom and thumb rest on your camera. Keeping these places free from brassing can add value to your camera when you resell. Otherwise, I don't think covering the logos is a theft deterrent.

Oh, I don't know... I had insulating tape over my red dot and front logo for 2 years and never got a second glance. One day it fell off while I was out shooting and ten minutes later someone said "A Leica, nice camera!". The tape went back on as soon as I got home.

Heck...I painted over the red dots on my M6s with black paint and gaffer-taped over the white lettering in front (shoot -- just had to Google an image of an M6 because I forgot what it says under the tape). Didn't know that DAG had black dots...You guys aren't pulling my leg, are you?

But the red "steal me" dot also marks other nice things to rip off, such as binoculars. Easy training for thieves: 1) See red dot the 2) steal thing with red dot.

Yeah. Trying to nick something from me could be a very, very unpleasant experience. But not for me.
