If it's fake leather then detergent (the one you use for hand washing dishes) and a little water is a good start. If it's real leather I'd go to the care car aisle at the supermarket and get some of the stuff they sell for cleaning leather car seats.
But there's plenty of camera fondlers in here who must have had similar experiences.
If it is real leather, one of the best things to use is saddle soap. For vinyl and other artificial cases, I use a damp cloth and only add some form of cleaner if it is really dirty or stubborn.
Thanks folks for preventing me from water and soap. I founded at home a kind of shampoo designed for cleaning leather and "leather" sofas, and it gave very good results, including brightness.
