this is the one and only, final and complete warning to all those that continue to ruin, troll, annoy, disparage every thread in the m8 forum.

if it is determined that you are making personal attacks or trolling for the purpose of starting an argument - YOU WILL BE BANNED WITHOUT NOTICE OR APPEAL!

i have had it and so have the other mods.

this is supposed to be a fun, good place to come to enjoy the camraderie of other like minded individuals when it comes to rf photography - digital or film.

the mods will decide by unanimous decision on all bannings.

My impression is that as the good M8 images start to mount up, the trolling looks increasingly silly. I suspect it will eventually go away. Banning trolls is always an enviable move although turning them to stone would be perhaps more appropriate to the analogy.
Best wishes

And sometimes a thread can be over-moderated, as clearly in the case of the Iraq one. Often if you just let the "kids" work it out, this can create a more long lasting mutual respect without the nasty intervention that was just witnessed.

You have to remember, this is internet dialogue, not conversation in person, there will always be perception issues.

I think the M8 is a fine camera, but I also think that there might be some members who stop at nothing to keep it on a pedestal, disagree with any criticism, go looking for confrontation and quickly find it.

I rarely comment on the M8 because of this. It is a camera filled with controversy so that is what often ensues.

What I can and will do to help me personally to avoid getting into scuffles is to use careful wording and only reply to a thread when it can be a solid or positive type of remark.

I like this place and have no problems with anyone on here, don't need to be banned either.

When I see a thread on the M8 that I would like to comment on, I promise I will moderate my post so you don't have to. But I will not tolerate being a target for ill thought out moderation either.

Now lets have fun already:)

I agree, freedom of speech doesn't exist on privately run forums.. although it might peev the hell out of some of us when it's taken away, but not so when we're on the opposite side of the table.. Which is a great example of the contradictory nature of man-kind

This is a great country freedom of speech & though and the M8
i love it

That, of course, is completely dependent on the country from which you are posting isn't it? :D

I agree though Joe.. jeez.. can reduce the "noise" in the signal to noise ratio please? :D

Cheers,
Dave

I don't think I'm putting the camera on a pedestal, although I'm very enthusiastic (Surprise:eek: ) about it and thus on the far end of the pro-M8 scale. And I don't think there can be any objection to criticism or disagreement. But yes- please keep it civil. And I may add, the way it was going, I do prefer overmoderation at this point of time (having just had a post blitzed myself - which I made in blissful innocence, I may add)

Sounds to me that someone's feelings are hurt. With regards to the M8, I've read it all before in the Nikonians forum when the D200 and later when the D80 were released.

Not my feelings - usually my sense of fairness. If you refer to my dead post - no harm done at all - it made sense.

i like that thought well spoken lol

There could be 2 M8 forums, one where accolades only are permitted, and another where open discussion is permitted. People from either forum would be prohibited from trespassing or evangelizing on the other ;)

I have no strong opinions about the M8 either way, it's not a camera I have any desire to buy, but no doubt it's capable of making very good images. It also has some well-publicised problems, and therefore polarises opinions. My problem with some of the recent threads is that the smallest objection to the notion that it's the greatest digital camera available to mankind gets an increasingly belligerent and plain rude response from a couple of evangelists, who seem incapable of having a rational discussion about it but prefer to shout at anybody who disagrees with them. I exclude jaap from this, as he's always unfailingly reasonable in his tone.

Anyway, as a result, many worthwhile discussions just can't be had at the moment, which is a shame.
