Okay, here's the set-up. Fuji Reala 100 (CS120) in an Agfa Jsorette. Outdoors temperature 32F. Bright afternoon sun at low angle. Open the camera; wind to frame 1; focus; set aperture to f16; set shutter speed to 100; cock shutter; frame; take photo.

It had been a good half hour since the camera was taken from indoors to outdoors, all the time being in my truck without the heater on. I didn't let the lens door flip open, restraining it a bit so it didn't jar anything (I had just put the camera back together after cleaning out the helical grease/glue, and setting the focus).

It was too cold for my fingers to function properly, so I waited until the next day to finish off the roll. This only happened on the first frame. The lab tech thought I had used a soft focus filter.

Any thoughts?

Maybe your breath condensed on the lens when you were setting the shutter/aperture/focus?

I've had condensation on film once, after taking a ride in the back of a GMC in freezing temperatures and windchill of a few more degrees. Kept the camera out in the open all the time. After we got out an hour later the sun raised the temperature only a little bit. The effect was totally different, when compared to your photo though.

The only thing I can think of now, is that I did take the film out of the fridge about a half hour before loading it in the camera (putting it in my pocket to speed up the warming).

And I don't breath heavy when I'm around a camera.😀 I'm not that much of a gearhead.

PF, this was my first thought. I think the film was still thawing. Pretty nice effect though.

It probably was condensation, though as dry as the air was that day, it's a wonder there would be enough moisture. The film wasn't frozen, but I keep it in plastic containers in the bottom of the fridge, so it could have been extra cold. I'll have to remember to break it out earlier from now on.
