Nothing is what I want
Actually, this is a fairly high precision instrument. It's original use was to measure the arc of a Slinky as it walked down stairs. Too much arc and it just runs down the stairs in a very chaotic fashion. Too little arc and it just sits on the step like some sort of ferrous turd.
