Hello, all...
I've had the M8 go out to lunch on me a few times, each time when I'm shooting with flash. I have a cheap $30 auto flash unit that I just got for the purpose, and when I shot with it, I got a few lockups--the counter shows, but I'd freeze in review mode, or in a no-man's land.
In all cases, taking out the battery and replacing it cleared the problem. I was careful to make sure not to overdrive the buttons in review mode after I got this problem. I was also shooting with a hotshoe to pc adapter for my Alien Bees last night, but didn't get the same lockups.
Has anyone else had a lockup on the M8? Maybe this is something they're addressing with the 1.10 firmware upgrade in December?
I'm also getting variable indoor image quality--the Tungsten lighting gives me very smeary output, so I'm using flash for now. I got some streaks and blobs when shooting near bright lights indoors, so I can't wait for the hardware fix for that. I'm going to keep the R-D1 around for now for low-light shooting without flash if need be, until the IR filters and the firmware and the hardware fix are all completed.
