I bought a new strap for my mp because I was tired of getting a sore neck from the one that came with it. When I went to put it on the camera I noticed the strange D rings that need a cover to avoid scratching the camera. Of course my new non-leica strap does not have a cover for the D Rings. Has anyone run into this problem? What did you do to solve it?

Hardware stores have small keyrings (about 1cm-1.25cm or 0.4-0.5") that you can use with a conventional camera strap, if there were no rings with the one you got. Remove and keep the Leica D-rings with the Leica strap so you don't lose them 😉 . I hope your new strap helps!

Most after market straps don't have the plastic ring covers but you can take a couple of small leather pieces and make protectors to go between the camera and metal strap ring.

Peter is right, Domke is the way to go. The leather piece works very, very well. I have seen photos of the BP MP with the original Leica strap, and after prolonged use those plastic protectors wear away the paint.

Here's a photo of my M4 with the Domke strap and leather ring protectors:

I also use that strap on my MP. Now scroll down this link for a photo of an MP w/ the original strap wearing down the paint:

Edit: You don't have to get a Domke strap, simply fashion ring protectors, as someone else suggested.

Artisan & Artist straps also have leather protectors by the rings; their straps are wonderful but expensive and difficult to find. Domke's are a lot cheaper, easy to find, and come with quick release plastic buckles.

MadMan2k: No argument there--I bought a used MP b/c a few scratches saved me a bundle--but why invite unnecessary wear and tear? The little leather pieces will not prevent you from using the camera to take photos.

Thanks, I thought about the Luigi strap but I am going to get a strap from him when I get the case. I also saw a Leica wide strap on the Leica cite but no one seems to carry it. I think it might cost more then the Luigi strap and case combined.

I do use the camera, which is why I am tring to avoid scratching it up. I could just put it in a case and look at it, like half the people that own a leica, but that would be a waste in my opinion.
