Greetings,

I want to add another strap lug to a Voigtlaender side grip, and add a pair of strap lugs to a FED-3 body.

Anyone know of a good source for threaded strap lugs, either chromed brass or stainless? Preferrably stainless.

My plan is to be able to mount the neck strap on the side grip instead of my Bessa-R body directly so it'll hang vertically. Don't have to elaborate on why I need 'em on a FED-3 😉 .

Thanks,
Greg

See the attached photo. Right now I've got a "finger strap" on the grip so that I can handle the camera one handed while minimizing the possibility of droppage. 😀

What I want to do is move the neck strap to the grip by adding another lug. Then I can put the "finger strap" on the body itself. This way when I want to go into "pocket mode" I can take off the grip, slap on either the collapsible 50 or the 35mm Skopar Classic and away I go.

If I'm in "tourist mode" I can put the grip on and have the neck strap. Also, I need the grip because I have larger hands, but it is more pocketable without it.

I thought about sending the FED-3 and Bessa grip to Dave74 in Canada, but I'm pretty handy with tools so I figured I'd do the job myself.

I also saw the rivet style lugs at Micro-Tools, but I'm looking for threaded if I can find 'em.

Greg,
A while back I advertised a service to add thread-in strap lugs to Russian RF's; check out "http://ufies.org/~djb/"......but noone was interested (that's life!). Contact me if you're interested in having your Fed dragged into this century!

Hey Dave,

I actually have your site bookmarked and have been debating in my head whether to send my stuff to you.

Would you be willing to add 3 lugs to a FED-3 body? The side with 2 lugs would be on the lever side.

I also need to add a second lug to a Bessa grip, there is only one lug on the top side.

From my site you'll see that 2 lugs work well on a Fed 3; to fit an extra thread-in lug on the lever side is no big deal if you like the "look". But, consider the M5 and you'll see Leica's 2 lugs on one side seem correct because they are installed far apart, near the lower edge of the body casting and near the upper edge of the top deck. Sadly the Fed's top deck is crammed with lever winding stuff making it tough to find space for a nut to secure the thread-in lug.

Maybe an alternative. How about 2 lugs on the rewind side? There's more space inside the top deck for a nut and the camera would hang advance-side-down, thus be quicker to bring into use (no straps on the lever side to get in the way of your right hand and trigger finger).

Ball's now in your court, Dave

Update to my Feb 8 post; check the attached photo. You'll see there's plenty of room for an upper lug on the rewind side but none near the winder
