I recently got an r3a and I've put a leica strap on it, but the camera always sits flat instead of upright. What kind of strap do you guys use to work with the lugs being on the front.

This is a curse of these Bessas... They only straighten up if you put a 90mm Summicron on. I hated this so much, that I only use a wrist strap with my R4A.

It hangs weird because of the location on the lugs. They sit on the front of the camera. Compare photos of a Bessa and Leica M3.

I've got a trigger winder on my R2S and that seems to be enough weight to make the body "hang" correctly off my shoulder. If you either can't find a grip or winder or don't want to use one, I think you could make the camera "hang" correctly by attaching a strip of metal to the bottom via the tripod socket hole with a countersunk screw.

Thanks Captain 🙄

So far the only option in this thread is getting a grip and that isn't something I'd really like to do.

I've been using a blackrapid strap which mounts on the bottom of the camera. It's okay but I don't like biking with that. Gonna try out a few more things and report back.

If you read the other thread(s), you'll know that another option is getting bigger (usually faster) lenses, so now you have the perfect excuse to get a Nokton or Noctilux. 😉

Does this one look good enough for you?

The only difference that I see here is the key rings are larger, ill try this eventually. I don't want a grip.

And to the suggestion above, I've used te nokton 1.5 and it helps but I recently purchased a 40 summicron-c and I'd like to use this lens some more! I bike a lot with my cameras and shoot while riding, if the camera sits the way it is now all the gadgets on the top dig into my back and it becomes a problem over long rides.

I thought and felt just like you while I had my first three bessas... The grip made no sense to me. Then I bought a fourth one, an R3A that came with the grip, and it's for sure something that makes my R3A a better and more enjoyable camera: holding it feels a lot better, and carrying it too 🙂 and in practice it adds no size nor weight... Sorry about insisting this last time... Good luck!
Cheers,
Juan
