Let's start a thread for all of these great street photos you all have been posting. Here are some from yesterday in San Francisco:

It's pretty fun as a street camera, I sold my M6 TTL to finance it. Luckily I still kept my Bessa R2a for the range finder goodness though :)

However the camera could use a built in hyperfocal mode, because it's quite a pain to set the hyperfocal using the manual focus.

And it's fantastic in places like markets because the rear LCD means you don't have to put it to your eye, giving you away.

Anyways, on to some pics!

So why the cool viewfinder if you don't use it, Jamie ? :)

Ha! :p One of the first tests I did when I got the camera was to set it up and shoot it with a fixed distance setting (in MF mode), to see how quickly I could shoot. I set my film cameras up this way (for street) to minimize focus travel when I use the VF and to and use DoF distances when I don't. For the X100, I used the DoF distances and rode the f-stop. It worked well.

San Francisco can be quite cool in what we normally think of as hot summer months. A few years ago it was a refreshing 69 degrees when my home state was over 100!

Yes. If you spend any time in SF, you learn to dress in layers. At around 3 or 4 PM when the fog rolls in it gets chilly. The shops at Fisherman's Wharf sell a lot of those sweatshirts with the famous Mark Twain quote to tourists around that time of day. :p

Ray, that's how I like to set the X100 up as well. I like to avoid having to wait for the autofocus. I like using it like I used film rangefinders... everything manual. :)

Are you kidding?? Summer in San Francisco? Someone once said something like "The coldest vacation I ever took was a summer in San Francisco. The fog rolls in during the summer and can make the days quite chilly.

Not sure how to get images larger in here......
Joe, any ideas.....?

This pic actually made me do a bit of a double take. If you just glance at it quickly the two pairs walking in opposite directions appear to be holding hands! :p

Thanks, I'm deep in Flickr and that aint pretty either.
This is embarrassing as I'm an admin at a few forums.

I tried embedding the Flickr code and even uploaded here to my gallery, that's what I got...
Dunno...

There are a couple of ways to do this. Here's one:

1. go to Flickr and click on the thumbnail of the image you want to post here.

2. when the image page appears right-click (control-click on Mac) on the image.

3. Select a view size from the pop-up (for example, click 'original'). NOTE: In kindness to RFF members it's best to keep the width of the image to a size that does not require horizontal scrolling and does not bog down the thread (IMO).

4. When the image appears, right-click (cntrl-click on Mac) on the image and select 'Copy Image Location'.

5. At the RFF 'Post Reply" editing window, click the 'Insert Image' icon (looks like a landscape of a green hill with a rising sun). NOTE: Not all sub-forums support 'Insert Image' (this thread does).

6. In the pop-up paste the the URL you obtained in step 4.

7. Click 'OK' (the IMG code appears in the editing window).

8. Submit or Preview your reply.
