I acquired an Olympus XA this weekend from a local camera shop. It came with all the original manuals and paperwork, a case and, of course, the camera. Marked as not working, but I thought a bargain at £5.

Battery check works fine, all functions as they should be, apart from the shutter mechanism. I fired a shot successfully in the shop, so I handed over the money without hesitation. The blades of the shutter seem to hang mid-release and there appears to be some residue oil on the blades. I've tried the old trick of sticking it in the freezer for a day (a known solution for old Lomo LC-As with a similar problem), but to no avail. I've taken the bottom plate off but haven't gotten anywhere near the shutter and wouldn't like to break anything before asking you guys what else I should try.

I will post pictures of the problem later today. Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem with their XA...
