I guess this is a never ending discussion and all depends on each of us, our preferences...

I will usually frame through the external finder after prefocussing and having set speed/aperture...nothing new!

I am looking for "the" 28mm viewfinder.
I tried the Voigtlander one, the last model, but it's too small for my style of shooting. I mean that I need something with a larger "window" to look through it quickly.

Right now I am selling this VF with a lens so I need a replacement.

I hesitate between a Zeiss 25/28 and a Leica 28 (plastic model).

The Zeiss seems great and very bright but I am worried about the multiplication of frame lines. The Leica might be better...

I have a Leica 21 plastic model and am happy with it. I would have certainly hesitated between Leica and Zeiss but I had it before Zeiss came back on the market!

Before buying anything I was wondering what RFF members could suggest based on their experience.

I own the Zeiss 25/28. Side by side the Zeiss is brighter than the plastic Leica VF'er.

For me having the double framelines is not an issue. The only thing I don't like about the Zeiss VF'er is the price.

BTW because of the double framelines I also use my Zeiss 25/28 VF'er for 35mm on a Leica II LTM because its easy to visualize the framing for 35mm because of the other two framelines. For me the added brightness of the Zeiss finder also provides that all at once look of a wide angle.

Thanks Cal. Yes the price is an issue. I hope I can find one used at a better price!

Not sure I understand what you mean by framing a 35mm on a Ltm but thanks for your advice.

Because of the 25mm frames and the 28mm frames its easy to imagine the 35mm frames for me. This saves me from needing an additional 35mm VF'er for when I mount my 35/1.8 Nikkor in LTM on a Barnack.

Also the Zeiss VF'er kinda promotes tighter framing, especially when shooting quickly. This works well for me because I live in NYC using zone focus for tight street shots.
