What diameter screw-in filter does this lens take and can you use the adjustable Leica "FIKUS" hood on it w/ no problems?
Thanks,

Summar filter size
Summar filter size
Hi Bill: The screw-in filter size for the Summar is 34mm. I bought a B&W one for mine.
One can also use A36 slip-on filters, or a Leitz adaptor called a SOOGZ which goes from A36 slip-on to E39 (39mm) screw-in. As a bonus, the 34mm screw-in filter will also fit the thread on the front of the pre-war 90mm f4 Elmar, if you have, or acquire one.
Good luck, David

BTW, forgot to mention that the FICUS works just fine.

I have a Waltz 34mm lens hood that fits the Summar and the old Elmar 90/4.

Yes, a FIKUS works OK. The ones marked for the Summar are marked at the fully collapsed setting, although I've had no trouble at the 50mm setting.
Of course, the correct rectangular SOOMP hood is more effective, but it's large, and expensive. You worry about losing it, which you don't with a FIKUS.
A screwmount camera, 35/3.5 Elmar, 50/2.0 Summar, 90/4 Elmar, Imarect, and FIKUS makes a great travel camera kit.

John,
I was thinking to myself yesterday about a future travel kit, and I was thinking of using:
1. Elmar 90mm/4
2. Summar 50mm/2.0
3. Canon 7.5mm/5.6
My wide angle lens would be more radical than a "tame" 35mm lens!
