I had a Summarit 50/1.5 for a couple of years. I liked it a lot closed down, it gave photos a vintage gloss without ridiculous loss in sharpness. Wide open it was a different matter. Very low contrast and totally impressionistic. Flare was also a big problem, the hard to find (and expensive when you do) hood was mandatory. In the end I was using the lens from f/2.8 or narrower. By the way, I had it cleaned for some minor fogging and the results were not that different. It's a specialty lens. Nice to have, if all other bases have been covered. I kinda wish I'd kept it because it's so much more expensive to get one these days but I also don't really miss it.

That last line made me Giggle.... all suddenly fell flat ~
I suppose I can understand really, that's most lenses for me. Love them then meh

Though I do think it's utterly a gem for portraits and ageing

Such a lovely softness and Allure to this 1950;s lens ...

unlike most portraits in digital I see today 'emphasizing' lines, wrinkles, everything unflattering in a most
extreme sharp manner...

Miss Summarit has that magic to add a touch of Softness and Atmosphere

Summarit on the M Monochrom, Orange Filter. Find a Tiffen # 611 Series VI adapter. Filters and Vented Hoods are cheap for it.

Mine is optimized for close-up/wide-open use. I moved the rear optical groups.

Very smooth, Brian. Is that second shot wide open or f2? It looks so well-behaved. I generally like the out-of-focus rendering of the Summarit, it looks different than most other lenses of its vintage. When you move out the rear lens block, do you have to increase the main shim to account for it?
