Some lovely photos there
Can't wait to get mine and take some photos with it and of it.
How necessary is a hood for this lens (apart from in extreme lighting of course)? I don't intend to get one for everyday use...

A very good shade for the M versions is the tiny screw-in shade of the Elmar-M 50mm f/2.8, 12549. It is very compact and you can leave it on the lens on a permanent basis.

I second Erik's recommendation of the modern, barrel-shaped screw-in lens hood intended for the Elmar-M 50/2.8. That's what I use on my older 50/2.8 and it also works well on my Summaron 35/3.5 M mount lens.

And Erik, I checked my Summaron 35/3.5 when I got home tonight and sure enough, it does not have the even f-stop spacing of the one you have pictured above. So despite being a goggle-free M-mount Summaron 35/3.5, mine is not the later, rarer one. But between you and me I still like it just fine!

Randy, yours has the advantage of being very compact.

Erik.

Good point, Erik. That's one of the things I really like about it. Makes it easy to carry more regularly when the lens isn't protruding too far. Also one of the reasons I like my old Elmar 50/2.8 m-mount lens - nice and compact. Thanks again for the further info about the 35mm Summaron.
