Summaron 35mm f2.8

All of these are
Kentmere 400 EI200
Barry Thornton 2 Bath

First is a print on Ilford FB Warm tone. Im BRAND new to printing, so I'm sure it will improve with practice. I am really shocked at how much the grain is picked up in negative scans vs print scans

I've just come into possession of an LTM 2.8 Summaron. It looks nearly brand new :D I want to shoot with it, but I'm so used to shooting my UC-Hexanon and don't want the Summaron to get damaged! Does anyone know a rough price for these lenses today? People seem to wildly disagree on the price of the true LTM version. Perhaps someone here can help! :D Thanks

It is a fine lens, but the extreme corners are weak. See this picture.

The Summicron 35mm f/2 is more sensitive for flare than the Summaron.

The early M2 version of the Summaron is great because it can be used on the screw mount Leicas (the M fitting can be removed).

That is a beauty! The Starkies do great work. I had them paint a Canon 50/1.5 for me, but my Summaron is too nice to paint.

Prices of Leica gear are tied to condition, if it looks nearly brand new, and has perfect glass (no fungus, haze, separation, or scratches, just the usual dust) then it can fetch $1,000-$1,100 (referring to ebay sales from reliable, known sellers.) The original LTM only focuses to a meter, the model with the removable bayonet will focus to 0.7m and is more desirable and might get a bit more, if the listing mentions it. Many sellers are not aware that some of these have the removable bayonets, I've had a few over the years.

Hard to find! Leica Summaron-M 35mm f/2.8 Version 1 with original package in full set! by Kevin-Xu, on Flickr

Here is my Summaron 35 2.8 in beautiful condition. I love this lens so much. It shares the same build quality as the legendary Summicron 35 2 but has more reliable performance. Will never consider to let it go.

Pictures below all taken by the Leica Summaron-M 35mm f/2.8 Version 1

I love using my Summicron 35/2 V1. I never thought before of looking tp buy a Sumamron 35/2.8. It seems that users of this Summaron like using this lens.

I just received an excellent condition Summicron 35mm f2.0 Version 1 last week. After using them both, I would say they both are great lenses. Their look, feel, and build quality is truly top-notch compared to the modern lens. When I use the Summicron at f/2.0 wide open, it doesn't perform so well on control highlight and somewhat 'gentler'. I would not recommend anyone who already has the Summicron to get an extra Summaron though. But personally, I like to collect beautiful lenses and this one is a must-have lens for me. This lens at f/2.8 wide open could provide me excellent and reliable performance. The pictures I shared are all wide-open taken by my Summaron. I watch them on 27'' iMac, and I was amazed by its rendering and sharpness. Don't forget it's a 60 years old lens.

I ordered a Summaron 2.8 which I want to use as my new main 35mm lens. I hope I won't be as disappointed as I was with the Summilux (expected better resolution at f4 to f8). I had a Summaron some years ago, it was my first 35mm M lens. I had it for one week before I returned it and bought a CV 35 1.4 SC if I remember correctly. Don't ask me why, I was a Leica newbie… but the pictures I took in this one week are quite nice:

I seem to recall that there was also an LHSA Viewfinder article on the Summaron 35mm f3.5 as well, but I no longer have that article which I downloaded years ago. I recall it is the article that got me interested in the Summaron and caused me to buy a 35mm f3.5. The Summaron 2.8 images show family similarities in the way they are rendered. I think many of the images shown here, especially the B and W ones have a kind of pleasant smoothness in their tonal quality that is characteristic of the Summaron as I know it. I suppose one could say it is a "classic" rendering of the sort that many love and prefer over the more clinical rendering of more modern designs.
