Summicron 35mm v4 vs. Asph

I believe the only way you can make the ASPH better is to make it in the size of the V4.

on the discussion: buy the V4 and whenever you feel it's not good enough sell it and get the ASPH (as a film shooter I doubt you will ever get this feeling) I'm super happy with mine and it sits on my M6 almost all the time

^bummer i hope they release a n ASPH II version so that IV is even more affordable for me :)

LOL. Thats funny. But I don't think it will happen (the cheaper IV that is), its one of those lenses that seem to have gone up in value over the years... you can often find a cheaper ASPH version than the IV. Even version III is pretty expensive. This is one of the things that made me decide to go for a second hand ASPH, for only a few hundred more you get a much newer lens.

not around here .. V4 starts at 1000€ (canadian, thats how I got mine) and only gets much more when it's the german version. The cheapest ASPH that I've seen was €1400

Nice price. Yes, I have seen the V4b sell for between 800 - 1500 € and the ASPH seems to range from 150-1900 €

Sometimes you see mint V4s sell for more than an equivalent condition ASPH. Mind you the ASPH version sold a lot more than the V4 so I guess there is more of them around.... supply/demand, etc.

I tried to sell my V4 for £1200 but no takers. One of my Asph (I ended up with a spare after buying a bargain M9) sold for something like £1300 (no box).

Agree with what others have said: the ASPH is really sharp. Can't comment on the V4, however, as I've never used it. But I'm really commenting to ask, how can the V4 be even smaller?? The ASPH is already a tiny jewel, slightly shorter and wider than my late 50's rigid 'cron.
