Summicron 50mm f/2 rigid

The eyes are haunting. Indeed, excellent work.

Thanks, Raid! I've been criticized in the past that the photo was "too photoshopped". Fact is, it is not photoshopped at all! The guy was sitting in the deep shadow and was looking into the direction of a bright, sunlit concrete road, hence the "glow" in his eyes.

Taking this picture was a weird moment: there was a bunch of people standing in front of s soup kitchen and talking loudly to each other, and one guy was sitting by himself on the ground a few feet away. I approach them and asked if I could take a group photo. One guys said "Take a picture of him, he's a bad motherfu$$er, he's a killer!" All of a sudden everyone was quiet and silently looked at the guy, almost as if they were afraid of him. I kneeled down in front of the guy and asked if I could take a picture of him. No reaction whatsoever, he just stared at me. So I set my focus to the closest range, slowly leaned forward until his eyes were in focus, I took one photo, slowly got up and walked away, thinking to myself "I better get out of here quick!" 😀

Thank you, Cal. That is exactly the hood I am using!

Erik.

Erik,

Mucho elegant.

I have a version 1 50 Rigid. Love that it only has the distance scale in feet only. Basically a Gringo version with the narrow focus ring. Bought mine from B&H for only $499.00 (mispriced); used it as is until the haze got so bad. Had John at Focal Point re-coat the front element and clean all the haze.

Love the build quality.

For film the single coat is the way to go. Love the retro rendering: timeless...

Works great on my Monochrom.

Erik,

Mucho elegant.

I have a version 1 50 Rigid.

I bought my first Rigid v1 in 1979. (See the shot above of the three girls in the streetcar). It was great until the haze broke out a few years later. I had it cleaned, but it was never the same as before.

This is a very late one, from 1965. No haze to see. Clear as a bell. I guess the coatings and the lubrication in this model are different.

Erik.
