I sold it years ago for a 35/50 kit, but ended up purchasing it again. For me it's the perfect compromise between the focal lens.

Thinking of getting this lens.
Do any of you use a UV filter on it to protect the front element, and if so, are they easy to get hold of these days?
I understand you can 'drop a filter' into the rubber lens hood, but I don't really want to use that lens hood.

I use a cheap adapter ring 5.5 > standard thread bought on ebay.
But it adds thickness, so you can't use ring+filter+hood because the combo vignettes: you have to choose between filter and shade.

Hi John. Kecin from Seattle. Great lens.
Of course it's a great lens, Kevin - it was the one that used to belong to you! But yes, one of the really great Leica lenses at a truly affordable price. I have taken some great shots with it.
Certainly just as good as some 35mm Summicrons out there t more than half the price. I usually pair it with my M3 and use the 50 framelines; one day I might see if I can find a good Leica CL. Anyone who gets a chance of buying this lens should do so without any hesitation.

Thank You guys!
I'm always buying and selling, trying this, tryint that... For me MP BP, 21 superelmar, 35 and 50 lux asph are the best, but at the end found myself going back to the small 40, why? I feel much MUCH more comfortable using "cheap" equipment. So M6 and 40 is a killer combo. I should stick with it forever and maybe add 25 voigtlander.
Again, thank You

These pictures have been posted elsewhere on the site, but illustrate how versatile the Leica CL with the 40mm "C" was. I used this as my sole camera/lens from 1976 until 1995.
