Hard to describe how much I love the 50mm Summicron V. Love it. And I love the slide-out hood. Great design... or is it?

This morning, I took just a couple of shots with it, but when I went to take a few more a little later, and took the lens cap off, the hood wouldn't come out. It was stuck. It gave a little, but it was stuck pretty good. I started to pull it out as best I could, and what emerged was some sort of tape cladding of some kind, almost like electrical tape.

There was a bit more sticking out than this, when I first pulled it out. It was clinging to the hood body, and left a fair bit of adhesive on the hood (that's the grit-looking stuff you can see in the photo, the hood isn't that banged up).

I couldn't get the hood to go back in with this tape stuff hanging out. It was completely binding the hood. I tore some away in order to get the hood back in, to put the lens cap back on.

Anyone have this happen? Is this something at all addressable by me, or do I need to send this off?
