whas it a right thing to do - I have just bought pre-asph Summilux 35mm, very clean, with hood, box and papers, made in Canada, serial starts 32xx.. paid less than 600 USD...

I bought one used in maybe '80-81. It was stolen in about '83. I immediately bought another one, new: the first ever new Leica lens I bought. It's still my standard lens on the MP, over a quarter of a century later.

In other words, yes, you probably did the right thing.

A good price !! It was my first Leica lens ever and is still one of my favorite lenses.

Post some photos ! 🙂

and now my first impressions... i knew i should expect it to be soft at 1.4, which in fact is... but it's not only soft, it has some interesting "glow", almost like using soft filter (e.g. softar). i don't say it's bad, i rather like it, but is it normal or something wrong with this lens? stopped down it is sharp as expected.

Congratulations!
Great lens at a great price.
I just bought a late (36xxxxx) one and I find it wonderful.
Beautifully sharp stopped down and wide open when I want how that renders or in an emergency low light.
I have one shot where I used it wide open and did want some more "sharness or contrast" and I saved the shot in LR by increasing clarity drastically. The bokeh was maybe less beautiful but the shot printed well.
Focus is perfect on the M8 and I don't have the back focus when stopping down.
I now use this lens more often than my summicron asph 35 which can't be beaten for sharpness wide open.
I sold my summilux 35 ASPH which was a wonderful lens but I just didn't like the size of it.

Yes, it does add what some call glow or ephemeral quality to the image. Very nice actually. I traded mine to fund a 35 Lux ASPH. Enjoy.
