It's odd , a Summitar came with my 1949/50 IIIc , no 504647 , uncoated , but crystal clear.
I managed some fine slides with it , but was somehow reluctant to use it , and my 50's Elmar , with the M 8,
I guess it's the talk of how good modern , expensive - to - me lenses are , with comparisons cropping up everywhere . Also , having borrowed a new Summarit 50 f 2.5 recently , I was all too aware what I was missing !
Then I thought - hang on - it creates excellent images , if low contrast , is resolves more fine detail than my much more contrasty J 8 , and i have a cv 35 f 2.5 Classic which I bought both because it was only £190 AND because it promised that vintage look !
Furthermore, it was images taken with lenses of this period which I am still inspired by , prefered to those of my more modern Minoltas [ well , late 60s / early 70s anyway ]
.. and it looks so vintage cool on the camera !
So I am resolved to get out there and USE it, together with the Elmar , M 8 , I 22 rigid etc - and exploit that ''softer '' look .
Recently , in buying a Leica Dig 3 , I dee'cided to stop chasing pixels and buy the only DSLR which I can connect to .
Now , maybe it's time to sop chasing the ultimate resolution and contrast , and enjoy what I have .
In this respect , maybe the awe of the M 8 , has inhibited me , though I have been using a sparkling Fed collapsible from the outset .

I have a Summitar, and I sometimes use it on my M8. It produces great files and a different look then my Nokton.. Go ahead. Just because you have a M8, doesn't mean you should stop using your vintage lenses!
I just packed the Uncoated Sonnar 5cm F2 on a Leica IIIa and an Uncoated (mostly) Sonnar 5cm F1.5 on the Bessa R2. "Night at the Museum" at the Smithsonian tonight!
