German Fallschirmjäger, Invasion of the Low Countries, May 1940. Okay September 2010 really.
Same setup and film as in my previous post in this topic
I agree those prices sound right. I paid close to $300. for a near mint coated lens.I had already been planning to buy the summitar, but after this thread, it's definitely confirmed.
I am just wondering what you guys paid/are willing to pay for one, coated vs. uncoated. I know I read somewhere online that the value is between $200-300, but is this accurate/fair?

I cleaned the front element on mine and got rid of the haze, but remember to be gentle with yours.
Actually I believe the mix is 94% distilled water, 4% Ammonia,2% Hydrogen peroxide. I've used it and it seems to work well but so can vinegar if it's not too bad. They probably had a jig that supported the blades. It's hard, but doable.
Note that the only way to safely clean soft-coated Leica lenses (like a coated Summitar) is chemically. Any physical method will remove the coating. I believe one uses a mix of ammonia and hydrogen peroxide. I leave the soft-coated lenses to professionals, after messing up a Summicron.
