i started the weekend looking for a good condition minolta srt body...

what i ended up with?

(on the way) a minolta 45 for 20 bucks...

(on the counter) an x700 body, mint, in never ready case and the plastic still on the bottom of the body...with 50/2 lens...a 28.2.8 carl zeiss jena ll macro lens (sigma made, i believe)...mint...a tokina 80-200/4.5-5.6 lens, mint...all lenses have cheap filters on them. the cz lens in a mint condition case...also a minolta auto 280 px flash, also mint...owner manuals, spare camera battery & blower brush...90 bucks!

the seller's brother also tried to sell me another x700 w/ 50/2, a tokina 70-210 and a vivitar 400mm lens for $100. but i passed.
i did try for the 400 but it was a package deal or nothing...

the plan is to shoot film during the week and digital on the weekends.

Cool, always wanted to try that minolta
Looks like you have a Perfect set up...in the World of Film

Wow that is a cheap kit Joe. That XD-11 in the shot makes me think maybe I should get my XD7 out again. I used to have the 16mm fisheye lens and keep your eye out for that Joe, it was a keeper and I should have kept it.

thanks for the heads up...as i see lenses for reasonable prices i pick them up.

the shutter sure is loud...otherwise, it's a cool little camera...lots of do-dads to play with, good size, ergnomics seem ok so far.
i hope to load some film and shoot at lunch time tomorrow...the joy of working downtown!!

I have a Konica half frame SLR from the sixties and it has the loudest shutter I've ever heard in a camera ... and that includes my 67 Pentax!

Makes a noise like some one dropping a brick into a trash can! :p

The Minolta lenses are very nice, the bodies have the shutter lag (XD7), but otherwise are ok. I would check the focus calibration of all this stuff before beginning to shoot. Of the lenses I see, I think the 58/1.4 is best - great for portraiture.

In my film days i had two x700 and I van only say it is an excellent camera!

PS: now I still use my SRT 101 !

Just have fun, Minolta is pretty good glass, my first full kit was XD7 and XE1 with i don't know how many lenses. (me gearhead).
Never had a problem with the gear, had a couple of SRTs lately and not to happy with them. Still keep a XG1 for street shooting.

BTW Arista Premium 400 is going for a price.

Good Luck

I started with Minolta when I found one down at the Goodwill store. When I discovered that the lenses were going for less than a comparable Nikon model, I decided to build up a kit. Wound up with six X-700 bodies through sometimes having to purchase a lens on a body, but then it's good to have spares. One of them has gone kaput, and another is now leaking light. I've also got an X-570, and the X-370 to round out the set. It's a great system, Joe, with lots of accessories to do just about anything.
