These last 48 hours have been very weird.

There's a baby in my house. And she'll stay.

Nope, it's not a camera... it's a very living thing. And my wife and I were thrilled when we saw she's eating well and, well... using the toilet.

She's probably three-weeks old... Found yesterday morning in a backyard by a colleague who took her to the office with hopes someone would adopt her. I saw her, and lost all sense. In fact, these are public apologies to Dave Murphy, whose film I wanted to buy. I was going to send him payment for it yesterday morning but after I decided to pick this little rascal and take her with, the world suddenly stopped and anything that didn't have to do with the wellbeing of this silly animal mattered very little (I contacted David this morning... fortunately he had another buyer in line).

Yesterday, at 2:40 PM, some vet assistants looked at her (we're making an appointment, of course, next week) and sold us some milk and a bottle. It's a very weird thing to find myself feeding this small animal and feeling so satisfied of having stolen a victim from Old Man Winter.

BTW, we finally agreed on an operatic name for her: she'll be a very resilient lady cat, and will go by the name of Mimí, like the heroine of "La Bohème", Puccini's opera.

Pics will follow. I'm kinda happy she's here... 🙂

Thanks for bearing with my news! 😉

Very young?

At least I had heard about feedings every 3 hours. She's voracious and devours her 1-tablespoon ration every session. Then, she uses her litterbox, plays a littl (needs to learn how to use her clumsy limbs) and then, goes to sleep.

Ben, my adult cat, isn't too happy... But then, he's not acting mean; as long as his routine doesn't get disturbed he seems to care very little. He shows curiosity about the kitten, and we'll have to get them acquainted very slowly. The first time he saw her he hissed, but didn't arch his back. I think it was just a way to tell the little intruder who's boss and that's it.

All thoughts about photography, GAS, film developing and the like are currently on hold. Even though I'm running short on D-76 I'm not in a rush to get more... right now.

And my wife left on a business trip to Little Rock! 😱 I'm going to be a single father for 48 hours.

Serves me right, I guess. After all, I brought Mimí into the house. 😉

Yes, 3 weeks is very young. Follow your vet's advises and treat her well. Sad that she is away from her mother so early, but happy to know she is in a good home.

I have a feeling Ben is in for a fun change in his life!!!

Don't forget what happens to Mimi in the final act. I'd have named her Musetta -- she was the durable one, and more fun to have around besides.

jlw, would you believe the first name (after Leica, I must confess) that came to mind was, precisely, Musetta?

Problem is... we'd start calling her Mussie, Mussus, Mussetowska and all the silly possible combinations and there's no end to that.

The thing with Mimí is that she had a "gelida manina" when she was on my lap Friday morning. 🙂

Now, here are some pics! 🙂

Torti? Is it true they're torture (moody, flighty)?

I dunno... she has stripes, like she may become a tabby, but a grey one. That wouldn't be too bad; Ben is an orange tabby, and according to a girl who used to work for a vet clinic, orange tabbies have plenty of attitude.

We'll see... In the meanwhile, she just discovered running mode, licked and bit my nose, climbed all the way to my shoulder and learned to announce when she wants to go potty. And, of course, when she shakes her head (something all cats do), she falls.

Makes me wish to videotape her...

*readers of this thread sigh and go 🙄 *

If you wanted a tough resilient name for the cat I'd suggest Tosca- now there was a lady with the proverbial male appendages. And unlike Puccini's Tosca if she jumped off the rampards she would land on her feet and just stroll away.
