ok, so you all know that i have been drooling over the zm 50/1.5 sonnar c lens for awhile and have been plotting and scheming to get one...well that's all over now.
i no longer feel the same need to get one of these lenses...because one was delivered to my place yesterday.
it's been a long road and i never dreamed i'd get one so soon but certain things worked out much to my surprise.
i could not be happier.
so expect a comparison between the planar and the sonnar soon.
if i can, i'd prefer to only have one 50 for the zi but if they are different enough for even me to see, i may keep them both.
if not the 50/2 planar may be up for sale.

IMHO the last thing the world needs is another lens comparison...
Just take pictures and enjoy/share the results.
If someone is really so concerned with how many more fractional lines/mm of resolving power one lens has over another then somehow I doubt that person, deep down, is not truly a photographer.

i normally would agree with you except for this being a sonnar and a planar.
i hope that there IS a difference in the LOOK of the final image.
i don't care about mtf and sharpness in the corners usually but i am very interested in seeing how the 1.5 performs.
there have been some shots posted here that i have loved (1.5) and i want to see a print comparison, up close.
Canon L1 to serve as a rear lens cap for my Canon 50/1.5. This was not a mistake like the Nikon, this was a legit purchase. It is flying over the Pacific right now.

Dave, lens comparisons here at RFF are of the "look" type, not the "line pairs per mm" type.

Some of us truly are interested in the different looks that different lenses give (not at all the same thing as resolving power). If you're not interested, don't pay attention to those threads. But the "who's a real photographer" comments that get thrown around this place from time to time get tired very quickly.

I appreciate that but...
Who, other then the owner, really cares?
I mean, here in the real world, that if the photograph is good then it is good -- I seriously doubt that it makes much difference if it was taken with this lens or that lens. With a Leica, a Bessa, or a Holga.
My point is that so much energy is consumed sweating the techy details and that takes energy away from clicking shutters.

I appreciate that too but...
When you look at a photograph that you admire, does it really matter what lens was used? Or if it might have been better if it was taken with a different one?
>Clicking shutters?
Here clicking is used as a verb...

Dave, do you like icecream once in a while? Well, I think you should stop eating icecream because it's not as good for you as green leafy vegetables.

But you can't possibly deny that photographs taken with these different lenses have different "looks" to them (or maybe you can). If some of us are interested in comparing those different looks (even if by so doing we show ourself to be "not truly a photographer" in your book), what's the harm to you? Like I said before, just don't read those threads.
