Taking The Nokton 50/1.1 Down To 0.7m...

I have taken another step forward toward making the Nokton 50/1.1 focus to 0.7m today. Has to be kept under wraps for now, but progress has been made.

The modification will require the remaking of a few parts, but the cost vs. return is worth it to me. It will provide a capability unable to be delivered by any other super-fast 50m lens, not even the $10,000 Noctilux.

On another topic, I wonder what the distortion of the Noctilux f1.0 and f0.95 is like a close-focus and wide-open. I wonder if the Nokton 50/1.1 is significantly worse than either of these lenses.

Wow. I'm impressed, can't wait to see what's coming up.

If you ever happen to get your hands on a Noctilux f/1.0, I would love to see if such a job is feasible on such a lens 🙂
I would be happy even with only 0.85m, but 0.7m would be the icing on the cake 🙂

ok 2 questions
1) why can't i see your pictures? 🙁
2) if theres a way of making a CV focus closer, why wont CV sell their lenses with the ability to close focus? :S

Just picked up a Nokton myself (used and inexpensive imho $700 CDN no tax nada - local deal) - Out of curiosity Lynn... if those spacers allow for using the lens at 0.7m rather than 1m; why not just stick with using the spacers over the more complex adjustment to the lens? Or am I missing something (I probably am and usually do.. 😀 😀 )

Cheers and curious,
Dave

Dave- the spacers between the lens and the camera will allow close focus at the expense of infinity focus. Lynn's modification allow full-range focus from 0.7m to infinity without taking the lens off the camera.

Think of the spacer as a short extension tube that allows RF coupling to be maintained.

Ahhhhhhhhhhh... ok.. got it Brian.. thanks for that.. hmm.. "extension tube".... I wonder if such a "tube" (i.e. stack of spacers?) could be done for rangefinders....

Cheers,
Dave

Bringing a very old thread back to life here, I know...has anyone else tried this recently? Let me know if I am thinking correctly - if you modify the lens with a spacer to .7m, are you just losing the same amount of the infinity side? Or do you lose a much bigger "span" of distances?
