Talented G2 users

I'm sure most of us Contax G owners glance through the Contax G users site on a regular basis along with this site. It never stops amazing me the talent some of our G users have in the shots that are displayed over there. The camera definitely helps but there is no substitute for talent and time behind a viewfinder.

There are some dSLR sites I frequent as well because I also own digital equipment as well but you rarely see the quality or talented shots on those sites that you see from photographs taken with film equipment.

Anyone else feel that way?

They will have to pry my G2 equipment from my lifeless hands when I die!

I can see people without any photographic experience buy a DSLR, but I doubt a first time buyer would opt for a Contax G. This holds for Rangefinders in general I guess. You're bound to have some years struggling with technique and composition behind you before you go looking for gear that fits a particular shooting style.

An other explanation is that it's so easy to upload pictures from a digital to the web compared to getting pictures from a neg/slide scanned. If you've got to scan negs/slides one by one, there's an incentive to only scan the best of the bunch..

But isn't it just great that it's possible for so many people to enjoy photography in this way? I'm sure a fair share of these random snappers will grow into capable photographers.. We all started somewhere. At least I know I have; I'd be ashamed to show the first pictures I ever took thirty years ago..
