I'm going to Burning Man for the 2nd time this year. I took my Canon 5d2 last year, with a 24-70 F2.8L. It was great during the day, but you really need 2.0 (or faster, preferably) at night. That was even at ISO 3200.
Anywho, I'm taking the film plunge this year. Ironically, I bought a Zeiss Ikon ZM, but the conditions are too harsh, so I'm not taking it. Doing some cheaper alternatives. Switching lenses the whole week is highly ill-advised (as is changing film, but can't get around that). I'm doing 2 RFs and 2 SLRs. Line up is looking like this.
Yashica Electro GSN (45mm F1.7)
Bessa-R + Canon 35mm F2 (not sure -- haven't bought either yet).
Contax Aria + 35mm F2.8
Minolta XD (or X700) + Rokkor 58mm F1.2
Right now I'm doing a lot of lens/film tests to see what works best where. I got the Aria (since I had a 50mm F1.7 anyway), and figured I needed a 35mm for out there, so bought one. The lens is great, but the calibration is way off of the Aria body. The 50mm is not quite spot on, but very close. However, it doesn't focus to infinity (thanks, Ebay). So, kinda stuck there.
I can get a Bessa-R from a shop down the street for about $180. They're substantially cheaper on auction sites, but I might just go get it. Would make it my "take anywhere film RF" as I don't fancy taking my ZM out in the rain.
Anywho, I still have a lot of prep work, and am getting used to the different bodies. The Electro only goes up to 1/500th of a second. Seems fine, but the light conditions are the extreme end of bright. It's the ultimate example of Sunny 16. If I want a shallow depth of field during the day, that camera is way out... even with ISO50, I think my max aperture would be 5.6. The Aria reads the ISO automatically, which means I have to use the exposure compensation dial only to push (which I plan on doing at night). Etc., etc. Lots more work to do, and only about a month to do it. The Minolta bodies are... well... kinda old. 🙂 The Yashika is no spring chicken, but is easy enough.
Sorry to ramble...
