Temptation Took Over

After some deliberation following a few questions set on here, I finally pulled the trigger after I sold my Fuji X gear.

New sensor, 25k actuations, Nice condition with a little bit of brassing on the edges.
Have only shot a couple of things indoors to test it out but all looks good. Full frame feels great in such a small, light body. In comparison to the M8, it feels a lot more mature. Not that there is anything wrong with the M8 at all. I love shooting with it and it's what ended up getting me here!
Aside from being FF, the first thing I noticed was the quieter shutter (used in the M8.2 I believe) along with the dedicated ISO button and the option for uncompressed DNGs in camera. No more UVIR cut filters and lens coding built in which is a nice feature. I haven't had a proper play yet but will do in the coming weeks.

I may end up selling the M8. I'm not sure if I can justify both. But for the time being I will keep hold of it and see how it goes with the M9.

Were I in the same situation, I think I would keep the M8 around. If you need to service the M9 you can probably count on it being out of your hands for 2-3 months if not more.

Congratulations! I know I loved my M9 when I had it, a great camera.

I would hold onto the M8 as a backup for the M9, if never hurts to have a second camera where the lens are interchangeable.

You raise fair points on the M8 as a backup. There is an allure to it as well with the b&w files.

It feels an extravagant purchase but I have had so much fun shooting with the M8, more than I expected in some ways, I just feel that the move to the M9 is perfect. Looking forward to getting out with it over the weekend.

Don't sell your IR filters! Although it is a lot better than the M8, the M9 is certainly not completely IR-proof, (the M (Typ 240) even less so)

Congratulations on your purchase. I love my M9 and never get tired of shooting with it.
Although I sold my M8, I do miss it from time to time. If finances aren't an issue then perhaps holding onto it for a bit would be a wise decision.

Thanks John. I still have it for the time being. 🙂 Used it alongside the M9 the other day and still love it. I've sold the rest of my Fuji lenses now so have topped up the bank balance a bit. I will see how it gets used in the coming months. They don't seem to be really losing any money.

The M9 is a great camera. Love the full frame look and have no regrets so far of letting the Fuji X go.

I didn't realise that. I haven't run in to many issues so far with the Cron V4 but will keep it in mind. Thanks 🙂

Mine get super sharp in ACR, .5 radius, 25 to 40 amount. My M9 is a little better, but for most prints the M8 is plenty good.

The firmware is better with the 9, but not by much.

Not worth selling for todays value.

I have used it for IR a couple of times and must admit, do like what I get from it. I'd probably buy an IR camera if I sold it so almost seems pointless haha.

I'm very happy with the 9. Differences between them are pretty marginal other than FF but the 9 feels a lot more mature. Selling an M always seems a difficult thing to consider and I think I'd regret getting rid of the 8 at this stage, unless I had to.

The M9 is a fine camera for sure, and I hope and expect you'll enjoy it. I sold my M9 to finance a M240 but kept both my M8 bodies. The used sale prices dropped so far I figured the M8 was worth more to me than the money it would get. I still use the M8s regularly.

Also, from my experience, I agree with Jaapv above. When I first got the M8s I resisted the IR cut filter need, but learned for myself within a couple months. The IR has a pervasive effect on colors and in many cases is not fixable in post, nor ignorable either! And, yes, I see the same issue in the M240 to a lesser degree, and now always use the filters to assure colors of faces, foliage, those black man-made fabrics, and indoor scenes under incandescent light. I am getting by ok with dSLRs but I guess they have heavier IR filtration in the sensor stack.

I didn't realise that the IR issue was still partly there on the M9 so will keep it in mind. I remember using my M8 in the early days without a UV/IR filter and I agree, some of the weird colours couldn't be fixed, certainly not easily.
