Testing G1 ROM

Hi all,

I have a Contax G1 with silver sticker in the film compartment, so it looks as if it has not had the ROM upgrade. The person I bought it from insisted that he had sent it off to the Australian distributor for the upgrade, but that they had not changed the sticker. I asked if he could produce a receipt but he said he had lost it. So I would not be at all surprised to find that it has not in fact had the upgrade. It was a good price and I'm not sure I really need either the 21 or 35 lenses. Nonetheless I am curious - if I ever come across either of those lenses and fitted them to the camera, how would I know that it had the upgrade? Would I have to run a film through it? What would the symptoms of a mismatch be?

Thanks. Sorry to be obtuse, but I just want to make sure. Will the camera appear to report that it has focused, but not really be in focus, or will it simply report that it is unable to focus?

Hm, how can I say it.

It behaves as if there is no lense attached.
