Finding work is not easy; my father was out of work for awhile recently. He originally thought he'd be out of work for a few months and find something new, but it was tough. It took him about 18 months to land something but fortunately he recently found a job. Don't quit looking, there is something out there, but it will probably take longer that you expect to find it. Good luck in your search, I wish you all the best and hopefully the RFF community can help you keep some of your gear.

Hi Joe,
Sorry about your job situation as it can be stressful in many ways.
Please remember that you are a person that can contribute to the betterment of society, while at the same time, making a better life for yourself. Age can be a factor in determining success in getting certain type jobs for employment but if you have skills and have titles that show success in the past, those could possibly help you landing another job.
I was an independent sales rep for 30 plus years but the type of market that I served changed and it became hard to make a decent living as I was on straight commission and got paid only for what I sold. In 2002 I started from scratch a photography business, focusing on people and events that take place with most people. I'm getting into retirement mode and still get hired for a few events.
At any rate, keep the faith and a positive attitude. When I was in sales a "no" for me meant nothing more than a future "yes!" Never give up!

once again, many thanks. the irony is that i have spent most of my adult life working for low wages in the not for profit world, helping others to find work!
i am looking at everything from retail to government work...i think age is a factor and a shrinking market in my field...i do think i will eventually find something in another field...

What, are they recruiting scarecrows now?
Seriously, fingers crossed, mate. I'm likely to be in your position very soon, it seems.

I'm sure the head bartender can double Joe's salary very easily...
On a serious note, I got my current position using LinkedIn. I wish I could track down the idiot at the coffee shop I used to hang out in who told me LinkedIn is useless, and I should be on Facebook...
