Stay away from retail. Low pay, bad hours. I should fill you in on what it was like working in the Amazon warehouse around Christmas...

Government work can also be low pay, but should be stable, if you work for the right government.
 
Also, maybe those of us on LinkedIn or other social media who are in work areas Joe is interested could Link to him so he could mine their contacts. I'm in IT in another country, so I might not be valuable, but maybe some Canadians have a decent network?
