I really hate all of you for this thread but most of all I despise Stu for starting it and Chrish for showing what the lens can do wide open...

The result of this is, as of tomorrow, I will be about $800 CDN lighter in the wallet until I can sell my 35mm Ultron.

I was really tempted by this lens and considered selling some gear. However, Roland (ferider) listed his Canon 50/1.2 so my gas for an ultra fast lens has passed.

I hope you don't plan to buy that 50 1.2 canon, my experience with that lens wide open is SOFT!

The examples I've seen online aren't bad to me. I wouldn't expect a ~30 year old f/1.2 lens to be super sharp. Basically, I'm sacrificing sharpness for speed. Buying the Canon is saving me $500 over buying the CV. I'd love to own it, but right now can't really justify the expense. Maybe if I really enjoy the types of shots I get shooting at f/1.2 and f/1.4 I'll upgrade to the CV 35 later, but for now this one will do.

Besides, I have plenty of other sharp lenses for everything else.

Hey! What did I do. I thought this was a friendly place to talk about rangefinders and photography <sniff>.

Anyhow I'm going to be $1300NZ lighter soon or more if I give in and buy that 12mm...

Come to think of it I'm going to have either do serious rearanging of my camera bag or buy new one, as the camera won't fit with lens attached.

kyle, my 50/1.2 is plenty sharp.
if it has been maintained, cleaned of the haze that often lives there and you rf is on you should be happy.
and roland is a good guy to deal with.
i would have sold you mine but it's on it's way back to taffer, who sold it to me.
i have the 40/1.4 and that's plenty fast for me.

No one of significant opinion has said the new ZI lenses are 'the best'......as far as I know....

Of those who are "significant", they generally don't speak at all as they are to busy working. I have yet to see a review from Koudelka, Lyons, or Erwitt concerning lenses. Leica or otherwise.

35/1.2 ASPH Nokton on a M6

Yesterday I got my lens, and I tough it was time to join in, have been searching RFF before buying, but couldn't find any images of the lens attached to a M6, so i took some 5 minutes ago.

Think I like the lens, well built, smooth but heavier than my Nikkor 50mm 1,2 ais. About blocking the finder, I don´t think it´s any worse than my Elmarit 28mm 3rd gen with a hood.

Now its just time to go out shooting, 400 superia and no tripod.

Would probably use some time to get used to the perspective of a 35mm after shooting mostly with 28mm for the 6 last years.

Think this autumn would be fine

Took a few frames, had half a roll left in the camera, Kodak bw400cn, and since I'm back again working on a lab the developing was quite easy

Taking good test-shots aint easy, taking photos with pneumonia and fever does not improve it either, some of the frames would probably been better if I kept the lens-cap ON. The camera does not get better than the person behind (or his health)

Loaded the camera with some more film today, so over the weekend it´s time for walkabout with the M6.

The Nokton 35/1.2 is a very impressive lens. The size issue depends entirely on what you are used to. It's very big for an RF lens, but positively petite if you compare it with just about any modern SLR lens with AF and aperture driven from the camera body. That said, on a RF body, it's pretty big. I'm happy to put up with it for when I need the speed, like after dark or indoors with weak lighting. OTOH, I like the 35mm length a lot, and for outdoors in decent light I've been toying with the thought of getting a small 35 like the CV Classic to go between the 28 and the 50. It's not an urgent matter, but someday I think I'll do it.

Here is a shot of my Bessa T with the Beast next to my F3 and 55mm f1.2 Nikkor. As you can see the size is comparible between both outfits. The Bessa is a bit quieter however.

I got around the viewfinder blockage with the external finder. With the included hood, the snout of the lens just barely hits the bottom frame line. There is no blockage of the T's rangefinder at all.

Compared to my 1.2 Nikkor, the lens is a bit longer but not quite as big around. The Nokton has a fairly stiff focusing ring but the construction is quite nice otherwise.

The real trouble I've had was that USPS took a month to deliver the fool lens from Cali and that didn't make me too happy. I have a roll of 800 film in the T now, and will post some shots when I get done with the roll.

It really is no bigger than your average 50 nikkor 1.4 or 1.2 AIS lens.

I have both the nokton 1.2 and the summicron 4th version. Performance wise i would give a slight edge to the Nokton in contrast and flare control plus resolution. The difference isn't much with both lenses being very fine. I haven't used the current summilux asph but of the lenses I've owned including the Zeiss 1.4 35 diatagon, 35 1.4 canon L, 1st version 35 summilux, 1st version summicron 35 and 4th version summicron 35 and some assorted nikkors and canon EF lenses i would say the Noctilux is the best in my book.

Size is little concern when speed is needed. It's just the price you pay.

Build is exceptional with a good finish and very buttery smooth focus and aperture.

I would give it a 9.5 on a scale of 1-10.

I might add that if you're a true available darkness shooter this is truly one of the best deals around and one of the finest performers. I previously owned the classic Noctilux 1.2 and liked it but the Nokton stomps it. The Nokton performs very well at all f stops where my sample of the Noctilux was very food to f4 and so so below.
