For those that own this lens, how is the finish on the black version? Have several black CV lenses and they all brass to a certain extent (the 40mm Nokton seems to have a better finish though)
Pretty sure I want the lens, trying to work out whether I buy the silver or black version. I tend to trade lenses a fair bit so its important that such an expensive lens (particularly at UK prices) retains its condition...
 
Terao, the 35/1.2 is only available in black. I owned it for a short period, and it started showing brassing fairly quickly on the aperture ring.

I read a note at Stephen Gandy's "camerquest site" that the Nokton must be retrofitted before use on the M8. I can't speak to the specifics, so I would contact Stephen to find out.

Ah, that solves that problem then. Was sure I'd read on Cameraquest that it was available in silver as well but you're right. Shame about the brassing, just means I need to take extra care of it, time to find a soft case for it rather than just chucking it in the bag like most of my lenses...

It seems the flange around the rear element binds against somwthing inside the M8 when focused to infinity. Some people have been able to reach infinity focus, perhaps with a little gentle pressure, others not. Apparently one can resolve the issue by grinding the flange down -- assuming you know how to do such things ...

Couple of Qs:

Lens cap options? Will an internal pinch style 52mm cap (like the modern Nikon ones) fit inside the hood (vented and standard). Other options? Don't really want to have a Nikon lens cap on the thing, its disrespectful :)

Neutral Density filters: How strong will I need for shooting wide open in daylight @ ISO200 (the lowest my R-D1 goes)

52mm screw-in will fit inside but i find you have to take off the lens-hood first (the vented one) otherwise try a generic 67mm to fit the vented lens-hood itself.

I have a Nikon cap on mine, and it's been pretty happy.

Hood / Cap for 35mm Nokton

Here are a couple of pics with a 52mm cap and a "hood Hat" made by Op/Tech. The one I'm showing is the wrong size as I lost the one I normally use on this lens, but you get the idea. It's Foam and works great, if you can keep track of it.
The lens does not feel as large with a Rapidwinder and grip on the camera.

Ah, didn't realise the vented hood reversed.
You've also pre-empted my next question which is where to find a hard case for the lens. Hmm, I wonder if Luigi would make one...
