the snow must go on
So, i got the shutter ribbon material, original from the factory, for the Kiev.
I replaced the broken one, was no big deal, sewing it and gluing it went fine following Rick Oleson's notes on the 'Contax/Kiev shutter ribbon replacement'.
But then, i had to tension the shutter spring in the bottom.
Man, that was a pain in the back. At least fifty times, the little screw jumped out of the driver's head and prrr, back to zero. :bang: :bang:
Advice: If you ever plan to do such thing, get the best fitting screwdriver, don't drink coffee for a day at least, and be prepared for hours of frustrating experience.
However, it seems all is fine. The new ribbon is still a bit stiff, so at 1/1250 the shutter sometimes doesn't open, and there's a slight capping problem, i guess due to the same stiffness (but the shutter still stays light-tight while winding, good sign).
I am looking forward to try the 85/2 Jupiter out. Yes, wide-open.
Just that stupid strong knob wind would not destroy my fingers before the roll is finished...

Sounds like trying to put the shutter crate back inti a Zorki or FED 1 when you are trying to keep the drum and two rollers straight, while inserting the shaft ends into three different holes in the top plate at the same time --while trying to get the gear on the drum to mesh with the one in the crate at EXACTLY the right teeth!
