That dose it!....I'm finished!

You'll shoot differently with a TLR than you will with an SLR or DSLR. Don't think of an SLR as a substitute for a TLR - it isn't.

.
Agreed! - I've used them on and off for fifty years...and shot more weddings and portraits than I can recall with 'em....but for me - those days are gone, given todays circumstances!
Dave.🙂

I think some of you are missing a point from my OP....I'm not giving up photography - or even film, - entirely!, it's just that as a pensioner costs need to be watched, and on a days outing I can shoot a lot of images, so the benefits of medium format over my DSLR don't make that much sense these days. Like I said - I'll still shoot 35mm, when I fancy ( hell - I've done it for 50+yrs. ) - and was doing so just this morning!, heres a shot from my Leica 111 - on my regular walk 🙂

As others have said just buy it from 7dayshop.com or any of the other online retailers and save.

Your original post reminds me of a chat I had with an OAP this week who was astounded when I told her I paid 63p for a tube of toothpaste as opposed to £2.95 for the same tube of toothpaste elsewhere.

All I can say is thank heavens for Wilkinsons .🙂

And, of course, www.hotukdeals.com

12 tins of tomato soup for £1.20? My shoes were on before the page had finished loading 🙂

beautiful shot dave, i cant get a scan that good onto my screen with MF arrg! a small digi is the only way for me, of course onto print my MF leaves the 35mm or digital for dead which is were it counts for me...though i would love to improve my online scans if poss
Thanks!...and just a bit more economy stuff here! - Industar 61LD..cost-£8, FP4+ scanned on my old Epson 'flatbed' 4870 🙂

A little healthy venting never hurt anyone. I get the same feeling everytime I buy film or go pick up a bunch of rolls from the lab. Although the closest pro lab is just a 10-15 minute walk from where I live, it's never on my way so my lazy ass always waits until I have 3-4 rolls to process. I always cringe at the bill.

However, what gives me mostly gives me the ''that does it!'' feeling is scanning. I absolutely loathe it.

Hey Dave,

As an OAP don't you get free travel on the buses with a special pass?

You can get to all sorts of locations by bus (often unintentionally!) and use the money saved by not paying the fare to buy film from the online suppliers listed in this thread.

Yep!...did that once or twice last summer - while getting over my heart attack - I think the money saved on the fare went on a slap-up lunch and a beer! 😛......this summer - with luck, I'll be back to the old Yamaha '1200' travel! - but no beer! 🙂

oh, how i hate scanning, is it evil for me to complain about it 😉

as for YOU, you are spoilt! no one deserves to live within walking distance, your government should pass a law forcing you to develop your own...

I am quite lucky to have that lab in my neighborhood, aren't I 🙂 . The people at the lab are quite nice, too. If they're not too busy they'll even do a roll of E-6 in a couple of hours and otherwise it's always ready the next day anyways.
Considering that Zurich is a pretty small city we have quite a lot of pro labs. Off the top of my head I can think of four labs that, although not in walking distance, are all not more than 30 minutes away.

I'm also a bit spoilt with regards to scanning as I have a Nikon 9000 but I still don't like the whole time consuming process. If I had the money, I'd at least have contact prints made so the selection process is easier but at $12 they're too expensive.

Dave,

you should consider buying bulk IMHO. If the wife gets annoyed with the room in the fridge taken up, you can still sell here or at eBay and get your money back for sure.

You can't lose!

Sorry, Johan, but I just quickly read this as "If the wife gets annoyed with the room in the fridge taken up, you can still sell HER ON eBay and get your money back for sure".

LOL, especially ending it with "you can't lose".

Mind you, raises some interesting possibilities though...
