That Leica glow?

Much as I like it, it's mostly just flare. Uncoated 90 Elmar, TX at 50 in (obviously) somewhat unfavourable conditions.

Nice. I agree. I think the "glow" or whatever you'd like to call it is from uncorrected aberrations, usually in the older uncoated or single coated lenses. Dunno if it qualifies, but this is the closest I got to it:

Collapsible Summicron, Ilford HP5 with HC110.

Thanks, guys; and nice shots. I'm very pleased with that sort of look, it's what I seek most often.

I slightly missed the focus on my flower here, causing it to flare up in protest. 🙂 Yet I really like how the leaf tip just to the left is razor sharp.

I've never seen the 'glow' unless it's a euphemism for blown highlights and flare.

Leica inspired euphemisms are kewl. Like, for example, a lens has the 'classic look' if it has poor contrast (usually due to haze, fungus, or flare).

I also think that glow is just flare but controlled to a certain degree ...in the attached Picture the highligts are rendered without flare but I think I can make out some mysterious glow...

maybe glow is like bokeh, everyonesee's their own. The only one so far where I see "glow" is ray's image even if you crop out the blown highlights in the leg *shrug* and actually a bit in J. Borger's image.

If you take one of those white led flashlights, like are made into keychains and cell phones, then shine it through the back of an old summicron, even a clean one, you can see the glow. The light beam looks as if it is shining through a mist inside of the glass itself..
