It's funny 'coz it's true.
Hard to avoid political issues here.
There's an unpopular and probably uwinnable war in Afghanistan (no-one has ever won a war in Afghanistan yet -- check your history), and considerable antipathy to the idea that the richest and most powerful country in the world might be able to afford health care for all its citizens.
R.
Yes, never won in Afghanistan.
Your health care remark is way off base.
Poor fiscal policy will lead to a major devaluation of the dollar. The "Richest Country" is over-leveraged and should the Chinese stop financing our debt we will be in a world of hurt. Future inflation might make Jimmy Carter days look like the good ole days. Perhaps manufacturers will then begin to make things for export. Hard times ahead and very high camera prices. Both Germany and Japan currently have better fiscal policies.
If you are in the U.S., buy'em while you can.
I have a piece of dental equipment designed in the USA and built in Germany. Dodgy. In my field American products are simple, robust, old-fashioned and well built.
When the Chinese Empire falls apart -- as I believe it will, because 60% of the land area claimed by the Empire is non-Han Chinese, and even Han China embraces several laguages that are not mutually comprehensible -- the midden may really hit the windmill.

Every empire falls at some point. When either the American or Chinese empires (as we know them today) fall, we may be all be in for a world of hurt unless another power emerges.
Dear RogerIt may already be here, unrecognized: a truly voluntary union, despite the squabbles provoked by the gutter press in its constituent countries.
It's the European Union.

Dear Roger
What has this line of discussion got to do with photography in general or rangefinders in particular?
Richard

Nope, been tried many times before.

I only said may.
But I have more faith in the EU than in the Book of Daniel, which is major-league squirrel-time, and shouldn't even be in the Apocrypha in my reckoning.
Cheers,
R.
The whole EU thing has been tried many times. Reckon what you want. Will never work.
Dear RogerDear Richard,
Consider where Leicas are made...

"Consider where Leicas are made..."
Portugal.
Jake: ever been to Solms?
Portugal is in Europe.
Dear Roger
In that case perhaps you should consider who will be buying Leicas. No sales = no manufacture. Markets are global.
However I must say that I am a little surpised at you expressing these views here. This is a truly international site and at its best when discussing photography.
Best wishes
Richard
