I don't want to threadjack, but this looks like a good place to ask.
sorry man, can't help you here. All my Ai'ed lenses were done by previous owners. They are pretty ugly as far as Im concerned. It is definitely home-made.

Are AI conversion kits still available for this lens? I have the final non-AI version, so it has the rubberized focus collar and non-scalloped aperture ring. I'd sure get more use out of it if I could mount it on, say, my FA, N90S or D80.

Shallow DoF:
This is from the SLR version. I have yet to see the advantage of using lenses longer than 75mm or 80mm on an RF camera if I have the choice of using an SLR.

I have an 8.5cm F2 for my Rangefinders, and the 85/2 in F-Mount for my SLR's. I find the RF version much easier to focus wide-open than on the SLR. Same is true of the 10.5cm F2.5 in S-Mount vs F-Mount. I have an easier time with the Nikon SP. I've been using Nikon SLR's for over 30 years.

You've got to try an M3 to understand, Will
I use the inside of the 90mm framelines on the M3 for the LTM 10.5cm F2.5. It works out well. The SP, S3, and S4 have framelines for 10.5cm.

I just did some focus tests with my 105/2.5 RF lens last night. Wide open at 5 feet, its focusing about 2.5 inches too close. Thats a bummer.

Maybe
But for now, I'll stick to my SLR's. One more reason to keep them around

Dave.

Nikon SP with a late S-Mount 10.5cm f2.5, wide-open. Focused on the leaf to the left, then recomposed the shot.
With its 1x finder and Parallax corrected framelines, I have an easier time using the 105 on the Nikon SP than I do using them on the SLR's.

Superb shot Brian!
I'm waiting for my 105 LTM from Japan as well, should be here by early December.

Thankyou! I also have one in LTM, and use it with the M3. The inner border of the 9cm framelines work out for ~"100%" viewing for the 105.

I got my SLR 105 2.5 AI about 25 years ago, and my rangefinder version about six or eight months ago from Doug Napier (dugwerks).
they are both wonderful lenses.
Here are two shots taken a few weeks ago with an S3 and the 105.

The Pentax super takumar and smc takumar 105mm f2.8 may not be quite in the same league but these are no slouches either....
Here is a thread and a few photos.

I have been trying to access mine on photobucket but the site seems to be down right now - I will post later if I can. Having said that I also have the sonnar version of the Nikkor and love it. It truly is special.
EDIT: ahhh here it is

The hood for the SLR version works perfectly well with the 10.5cm RF Version. Much cheaper. The hood for the SLR 85/2 will also work, will not store backwards on the lens. The filter size of the RF lens is 52mm, so these are easy to find. The original Nikon RF hood is not vented. This presents a problem for the LTM version working with many cameras as it original blocks the RF window.
A number of zoom-finders have 105mm settings.
