It is inevitable, as we age, that our bodies and capabilities change. That said, and despite the many thousands of photos I've made hand-held at longish shutter times that were satisfying and worthy, best results have always come with a good, sturdy tripod, and at both ends of the scale from ultra-wide to telephoto .. regardless of shutter speed. It's only really right in the middle, near a normal lens focal length, that I feel I can can mostly do without a tripod if the goal is high detail and exacting sharpness.
So often, however, this is a senseless goal and the point of a photo has little to do with ultimate sharpness and detailing. Expression, emotion, feel are much more important most of the time. 😀
