Thr Rokkor 90mm F4. Quite a short and compact lens. Having the same Rubber hood as the 40mm rokkor.
Nope. There's a deeper hood for the 90/4. Just got back a set of ship's rigging shots from the CLE/90 and there was no problem with focus. Nice thing about RF's is that slower lenses don't mess up the focusing capability.
Despite the CL and CLE having similar names, they don't really have much in common beyond the lens mount.

Funny thing is, I don't even consider using anything longer than, say, 75 mm on a rangefinder. I have an 85mm, which is quite a good lens, but I hardly ever-if-at-all use it. I just don't find a rangefinder appropriate for it.
The CL shines really with its 40/2.

I just picked one up the other day. I really like it. It's a nice little size and weight for carying around, and of course it can often be an advantage to have a auto meter. I have only just started using it and have not developed nay photos yet, but I will post some as soon as I do.
I bought a new CV 40mm 1.4 lens for it (and to share with my R3A which is also a 40mm). So I am kind of glad it doesn't take a 35mm - I can use the 35mm on my Leica's but this CLE has given me a good excuse to buy a fast, well reviewed, 40mm lens I doubt I would otherwsie buy. I was thinking of using the CLE with the 40mm 1.4 for night/indoor photography - taking it out a=nd about when going out at night.
I pikcek it up from MW classics in London, in good condition and all working, for £225, which is less than a second hand R2A or R3A usually goes for, so I think you can get one for a good price.
My only problem is, as I have becom a little obsessed with getting rangefinders, I also picked up a Konica Hexar rangefinder the other day - which reviews suggest is a slightly better M copy, and also has AE mode. Plus it has a top speed of 1/4000 which i believe is faster than the M7. I got that for £355, so a bit more than the CLE or Bessas, but still much less than an M7.
So now I have too many "second cameras" I don't know which one to use. However, I have them all for less than the price of an M7, and I can use my M6 whenever I don't want AE, and my M4-P if I don't want metereing issues at all. In fact with these used cameras available out there, I can't see the justification for splashing out on an M7 - but no doubt someone will shoot me down for suggesting such heresy

Certainly not shooting you down, but if you want Leica build quality, or longer rangefinder base, or a more standard selection of framelines, and/or auto exposure then the M7 will be just right.
Having said that, I will add that it was the MInolta CLE that brought me back to rangefinder shooting. It is a wonderful camera. I use my M7 more than the CLE now, but I will never part with the Minolta. BTW, I use the 40mm Rokkor (uncoated) on the CLE and the later, coated 40mm Rokkor with the cam modified to bring up the 35mm framelines for my M7. Framing inside the 35mm bright lines is amazingly accurate. So accurate that I wouldn't even want to guess how hard it would be frame with a traditional 35mm lens.

Nick, you have a nice selection of m-mount cameras now with various different features and strengths... how can that be 'too many'?
After owning a CLE since new, joining an M2 I got earlier, I just bought a second CLE because it's still my favorite m-mount camera -- even in the presence of the Bessa-T, Bessa R4A, and Zeiss Ikon. Nice to have the variety! I've no experience with the Hexar, though it seems entirely respectable from what I hear.
I do also think the 40 Nokton is a nice fit with the CLE, and I love the roomy 28mm framelines for its partner 28mm lens... two favorite focal lengths that work so well with this camera.

Ignore It (It'll go away)
The CLE is very nice. I have two and use my 40/1.4 SC with them. I love that lens but my favorite CLE pairing is with the CV 28/3.5. It makes for a great compact RF.
