Cool. It's definitely a different class of camera. And I like the direction that Canon and Nikon are going in. Creating cameras with a purpose.

36 MP. Wow.
Its only the same density as a 16MP APS-c sensor and nobody is ever really shocked at that

20 MP - 24 MP would've been rad. At 36 MP, they've lost my dollar. I'll buy a d700 hundred instead.
D800E..hmm.

Just when you thought pixel wars were over . . .
I assume this will replace, not augment, the D700. If so, that's too bad and I wonder what will happen to D700 prices.

My M5s need red dots!
I have to take my D700 out for a walk. It's been sitting there for too long. Need to rekindle our relationship... and not to even look at the new one... floozie...

EDIT:$ $3000 for D800, How much more for the D800E (+$500-900?)
And my initial gripe, being a scuba diver, is the significant height change in the d800. I guess it keeps the underwater housing guys in business...

$2900 for the D800. $3200 for the E.
The E is the one I'm kind of excited about.

Looks like it's time for me to finally get a D700.

I sure hope those d700 sales drop and become abundant! As much as I'd love the new toy, my school boy budget has been longing for its release for used d700 sales!
Some whos ready to sell their d700 so they can get the d800(e)?

Pretty cool, but the trusty 700 does me fine.

camera looks awesome, but i prefer Canon (don't ask me why). i hope that this is the nudge that Canon needs to announce the 5D Mark III/X!

Mine won't!
I may add one of these as a 2nd body. I'm still looking at either a D3s or D4. Have to wait to see some images and have a play with an 800.
The D700 hasn't just died because of the 800's release!
